If I could have a dog of my dreams.......
We have two kitties so adding a dog to our family isn't in the picture right now...but if I could have the dog of my dreams..I think I would choose a golden retriever. There is something about their sweet faces and friendly kind of low key attitude about things that really grabs my heart. Of course they can be peppy too.
If you could add a pup to your family...what would you choose? Or if you have already chosen your favorite dog, what is it and why?

A rescue dog.
Goldens are so sweet. My brother had one and was the sweetest animal in the world. I have rescued two dogs in my life. Both were from the Michigan Humane Society. One a Bouvier-Irish Wolfhound mix and my current dog a Westie Mix. I think that if anything happens to my senior dog we would choose another rescue.

Our dream dog is a Bichon and her name is Lucy. She is almost 9 months old. Her playfulness, loving and energy are unlike any puppy we've ever owned. Lucy is our first little doggie and we are thankful every day that we have her.
We got Lucy after we had to put down our 150 lb black lab/wolfhound that we cherished for 12 years.

Before I started looking for dogs a year ago, I'd hardly ever heard of a Havanese. I wanted a dog that was nonshedding, not a barker, good with kids and a good companion. The Havanese has all that and more! They are little clowns (cousins of the Bichon!) and very, very smart. I would encourage anyone to get one. It is said (kind of like TV)....you don't get a Havanese, you get a lifestyle!

Mike and I had a golden mix....Max. He was found wandering around our neighborhood...he was about 10 weeks old. He was a great dog and was indeed a bundle of energy as a younger dog. Max grew into a loving and caring pooch and when we describe him, we both say he was a gentleman, if a dog can ever be compared to an individual.
We had him for 14 years and he is missed. Miss Sydney, shown in my avatar came into our lives at 2 1/2 year of age, a rescue from a no kill shelter. Sydney was a mixed breed, black lab in there somewhere, and so full of energy it was amazing. She was a silent runner and as fast as the wind! If I could have either of those two puppies back, I'd be thrilled...both were wonderful! |

We have a cat and a Doberman. The cat can be a little mean but the Doberman is the sweetest guy. It's funny to watch a 14lb cat chase a 100lb through the house. Then you see them sleeping together. Our cat rules the roost.

Polish Lowland Sheepdogs because they are very smart, easy to train and they don't shed. Zorro, Zeta and Zuni are great companions.

A Real Dog Of Course....
We love Labrador Retrievers,...they seem to have the same attitude as the Golden,...IMHO, I'd rather see one real dog like this to a hundred of the little "floor mop" types,....but that's just my opinion....My Mom in law has a little Yorkie Poo,...she's a good dog but can be a little snarky sometimes....

We have two Goldens as you can see. Chip and Sky are brother/sister and just turned 4. All dogs are wonderful but Goldens are extra special. IMHO

Long & short little hound dogs....aka badger dogs.....aka Long-Haired Dachshunds are great little companions. The long haired doxies are a whole lot more laid back than short hairs.......never yappy or hyper (not that ALL short haired are). Very loving & devoted, with just enough stubborness to be cute.
