They push it closed as much as possible. Of course it can’t latch without a key.

It happens frequently. The resident returns once they realized the error and retrieves them.

We do the same thing and also put the other key on the ring with our car keys.

That's how I met the nice Watch person who find my keys less than a minute after I walked away and couldn't start my cart :-)

Postals are checked 2-3 times every 24 hours.

Quick story...

I used to keep mine on my golf cart key ring but I had to walk home too many times from the mailbox to get my other key that is on my car key ring. I was able to drive my car (2023 Tesla Model X) back to the mailbox and get the key back but now I have two vehicles at the mailbox. It was an easy enough fix though. I just Uber back home, get Randi, and we Uber back to the mailbox. If you set it up, you can save a few dollars by having the driver wait. I know some are on fixed incomes so this may help. After our personal Uber XL driver, Myrvold drops us off at the mailbox, each of us drive one vehicle back. Maybe hit the Richmond chip and putt on the way back. I play in sandals and socks as my gout is still pretty painful. Only two toes are swollen now so it's manageable. It takes a few minutes even without the golf as we made sure to buy the house furthest from the mailboxes to reduce traffic and prying eyes into our birdcage. But it's The Villages, we have time!!!
