I read most of the replies and with one exception, I laughed and shook my head. I appears that those of you who love everything about the Villages are pollyannaish. Those who criticize some aspects are doing so to see if others may agree and then choose to change and make this place even better. The slogan Make America Great Again is an example of that, isn't it? Now, I don't agree with that slogan (which has been used in politics for decades) because I think America has always been great ,even though as time passes, certain aspects of our day to day existence needs to be adjusted to the betterment of all of our citizens.

My take is one that is probably not all that common: that there is no such thing as a good decision or a bad decision. It is what you do AFTER the decision is made that determines whether it was good or bad.

That seems to be especially true for people moving to The Villages. The lifestyle here is probably substantially different from that of where most of us hail from. There's a LOT to do and see here, but most of it takes some adjusting. If you move here from, say, Aroostook County, Maine, and enjoy solitude but want a place that offers far more than just watching slapping mosquitoes, shoveling snow and watching moose go by--well, solitude is NOT what The Villages offers. Florida is crowded and you're going to see a lot more cars and golf carts on your walk to the mailbox than you will probably in a day back in Aroostook County.

You can choose to be miserable. Or you can adjust. But the choice is yours.

Many people don't have the means to come down for several "Lifestyle Visits" or have a season of leisure to rent before buying. Most people I have met all agree that you have to settle your ties and debts before moving here. There are some that maintain lives here and afar, but many homestead.

I suspect if people had unlimited resources and were not happy here, they would find another place to suit them.

Some people, I agree, are in the business of misery -- if not for misery, they would be terribly miserable.

There are a lot of frogs here that don't have the means or energy to find another pond.

Thanks for your post, agree with a lot of it. I’d add this saying/mantra: “The Devil you Know is Better than the Devil you Don’t Know.” Hence people stay!

I am amazed that we can still be amazed by negative people! They’re everywhere and moving will just change the location of their negativity spout. Negative people thrive in the social media environment because that’s the best place for them to be heard. Otherwise most of us wouldn’t give them more than two seconds of our attention in person. Once they start complaining their words turn to bla bla bla because nobody willingly consents to having the life sucked out of their day for the purpose of conversation. However on the positive side, whining and complaining can be entertaining with the right mindset (which is why I read TOTV).

So true that there are people that will always complain and there were people there will always tell them to move. It's the same way with your wife's cooking oh, you may not like everything but you're not going to get rid of it just because of their cooking

I believe some people share comments and opinions as a sounding board to their own thinking. Most seek confirmation, but others might truly seek thoughtful debate, or a gauge of the reasonableness of their view.

The Villages is not a paradise, nor is it a living hell. There are some truly awesome features and there are some really irritating aspects as well. Everywhere I have ever dwelled, there have been both negatives or positives.

If you have a contrary view to share, I will listen and maybe understand your reasoning. I don't have the need to fight you over it, nor will I proselytize the awesomeness of the opposite view. You don't have to move out, go back north, get a life, screw yourself, get an education, or seek confirmation of your status on the spectrum. I just agree or don't.

I don't own the truth, or your truth.

I think it is Ok, even healthy, to question things. I also don't equate having a contrary opinion as being an all-time miserable person. You can be contrary and always miserable, or you can be happy in general, and irritated by a specific thing.

Just the fact that we all found ourselves here, coming from all over the country (and world), suggests we are more alike in that aspect than we are different in others.

Then again, we'll probably just continue to bash the $hit of each other.

They should try the coast of Oregon or Washington.........the Pacific Ocean moderates the temperature. The downside is that you get high winds in the winter and too much rain in the summer. Scenery is beautiful and the people tend to the friendly side.
It would also be possible in an RV to relocate every 2 months and stay in your preferred temperature zone. Everything has pros and cons.

Any YES, moving from the northeast has been traumatic. 5 years next week and I still can't fully adjust to some of the stuff around here both regarding the location and the population. One learns to overlook the bad most of the time.

I disagree about the "trolling and clickbait". This Tread starter has as legitimate of a subject as most others. It involves something on Villagers' minds often. The rest of that post made sense to me. In my personal opinion, I would care to retire in only 2 sections of the N.E. The finger lakes region and maybe close to Lake Erie.
......What would be close to ideal is to own a home in The Villages and have a Village leased and managed quality RV area and some nice rentals available to ONLY Villagers. So that a person could spend the summer (about 4) months and enjoy the same friends and have similar clubs and sports leagues as in Fl. That could be a dream new years wish?????
