Seems as if so many posters simply read the FIRST post then give their two cents. For the third time - take some time to read other posts, esp mine the OP, to not waste your time with the same yada about a shotgun and my hyperbole.
…..you folks simply continue on and on….

If you buy a shotgun and cut off 75% of the barrel, you will get a much larger pattern and be much more effective.

We also have a nice bird feeder in our front yard. They and other birds love it.

But. Yesterday we saw a Hawk loitering around, and in the afternoon had a little bird in his mouth on our driveway and then finally flew off. We’ve seen Hawks before but never one with (one of our birds) for lunch. Yuck.

Yes, it’s nature and circle of life, but….

If I see another Hawk nearby I may go out to get a shotgun. Gotta protect our little birdies.

Any idea in how to get rid of Hawks?
#1 you will go to jail for discharging a gun in a residential area
#2 Hawks are protected
#3 House Sparrows spend their time raiding and eating the eggs of other birds. ie our Blue Bird house
#4 Hawks eat rodents and snakes they are far more useful than House Sparrows
#5 why not switch to Bat houses they eat mosquitoes and other annoying bugs. Much more useful then sparrows eating eggs

Default Sling Shot

Just buy a sportsman’s sling shot and some large lead pellets. Hawk’s are large targets. If you don’t want to (dust ‘em) kill them, use the rubber pellets.

Will a fake owl keep hawks away?

Place Decoy’s

Hawks won't attack when they see their natural enemies or other larger animals in the yard. A large owl statue or scarecrow are easy additions to your yard that keeps hawks away.

Well, I didnt read all 9 pages, but house sparrows are considered vermin in the US. Id thank you not to encourage them since they are really just flying mice.
In MA, on our farm, we regularly trapped and dispatched them.
Go Hawk!!

A pellet or bb gun will have little effect on a car. The original poster was right to insist on using a shotgun.

Can you believe he is so insistent on shooting a shotgun in the Villages. I mean who does that. A prior post said it is common in Kentucky of Tennessee> Unbelievable.

You are going to have to tell me what in post that statement was made. I just went through every one of them and can't find it.
