I had an experience with a bicycle rider that I mentioned awhile back, who was going at a reasonable pace for a bicycle (somewhere between 8-12mph), but slow enough that I wanted to pass them with my golf cart, at 18-20mph. But every time I tried to speed up to get around him, he would speed up to prevent me from doing so. It's dangerous to be crossed into the opposite lane for more than a few seconds at a time.

Yes, there really are people like that living in the Villages.
I stand by what I said earlier about over analyzing this. It's really simple, just practice some common courtesy and it's all good.

Yes there will always be exceptions. These idiots can be pedestrians, bikers or cart drivers. It's not exclusive to one group.

My wife and I ride the mmp on our moutain bikes side by side. But we have mirrors, and when we see a cart come up behind us, we quickly go to single file so the can easily get around us. It ain't rocket science peeps.

Some scientists would have to measure that "tunnel vision" for me to believe that it is true. Logically, since women, on average, are better at multitasking, then they would have the broader vision.

Oh hm - this is an MMP we're talking about. So scratch that common rule of the road.

Another rule: Cars and trucks should yield to pedestrians. But wait - this is an MMP we're talking about. Cars and trucks don't drive on those. Never mind that one.

Motorcyclists should wear helmets. Except on an MMP, where they're not allowed to be driving anyway.

Pedestrians should stay near the edge of the road, and not walk in the path of traffic. That's a good one. Let's adopt it.

Anyone trying to pass a pedestrian should avoid hitting the pedestrian in the process. I like that one too. It's a keeper.

So we have two take-aways: Pedestrians need to avoid being so myopic and stupid that they're easy targets for uncaring golf cart drivers, AND golf cart drivers need to avoid being so myopic and stupid that they'd ignore a pedestrian in their way and hit them.

How's that?
Please look up the definition of road. So how that.

So, are we done convoluting a safety issue to be something about gender? OP diminished her credibility by tossing that unnecessary bait out there.
Well, Tesla owners explains that. How many women earn wage driving something down road every day?

As a long time runner, I run the mmp near Mallory CC often. 95% of cart drivers are courteous and give me room, but once in a while they don't. Usually entitled drivers like yourself.

I've been driving for 50 years and pedestrians have always had the right of way! It's just common sense. We learned that in drivers ed. Btw, if your parents taught you to not move over, they taught you wrong.
Personally when I run, it is on a surface that is less hard than the MMP like a running track or grass or clay. Many of the softball fields have space for running on soft clay or grass. The Polo Grounds also has a lot of space and grass. If I were so inclined to run on a MMP, I would run on the right side ONLY if I had a mirror that attached to glasses or a helmet and I would run or stop on the grass to the right. The other possibility would be running on the right side and running on the grass to the left or stopping on the grass.
............Some have asked. "what about if there is no grass on either side of the MMP?" Then, I would pick another part of the MMP or forget the MMP entirely. In fact I would rather run or bike inside in a gym than on the MMP. But, as they say, "different strokes".

You really need to check stuff out first. From The VCDD:

Notice that bolded underlined word "Vehicles." Vehicles are not allowed on MMPs. Golf carts are not considered vehicles, just like skateboards aren't considered vehicles. I'm not talking about the dictionary definition. I'm talking about the meaning as defined by local law and regulation.
Has nothing to do with it, state regulations which describes what road or in this case private road. State law over rules local ordinances.

Funny how in Florida women can be more outgoing without being seen as "inviting".

If you want to REALLY say "I have the right of way, I can walk however I please, all those vehicles are required to move out of my way" then walk with the flow instead of against it.

I do that on the MMPs because I'm sharing the path with my fellow non-vehicles and pay attention to my surroundings, and feel comfortable in my decision. On streets, I walk facing traffic because 1 - it's smart, and 2 - it's the law.

An MMP is really just a widened glorified sidewalk. Pedestrians walk on the right of a sidewalk, not the left. So that's what I do on MMPs. But I also recognize that "right of way" doesn't matter AT ALL, because I'm at risk of injury no matter which side of the MMP I'm walking on, if a drunk golf cart driver is swerving around. It is MY responsibility, therefore, to make sure I am safe.
What are examples of vehicles?
Vehicles include wagons, bicycles, motor vehicles (for example, motorcycles, motor cars, trucks, buses and powered wheelchairs and scooters for disabled people), railed vehicles (trains, trams), watercraft (ships, boats, underwater vehicles), amphibious vehicles (screw-propelled vehicles, hovercraft), aircraft (planes, ...

Golf carts are defined in section 320.01(22), Florida Statutes, as “a motor vehicle that is designed and manufactured for operation on a golf course for sporting or recreational purposes and that is not capable of exceeding speeds of 20 miles per hour.” Golf carts may be operated on roadways that are designated for ...

First off I'll mention that we always walk on the left side (ie, into traffic), and that our observation only applies if there are no carts coming from behind us (fyi, if there are carts coming from both directions at the same time, we simply step off the path onto the grass, ceding the right of way).

So, when there is a cart coming at us (and no other carts, bikes, or walkers anywhere around), our observation is this: When MEN are driving the oncoming cart, they pull way over to their left, giving us wide berth which provides us with a comfortable safety buffer. On the other hand, WOMEN do not do this and instead (inexplicably) generally hold to their current lane on the right side of the path.

Suffice to say we don't understand this phenomenon, and if anyone does, we'd love to hear the reasoning. But in any case, we walkers would like to thank those cart drivers who swing wide left when approaching walkers, and we'd like to ask more (all) of you to please do the same (when you can). Thank you.
have noticed same. .
thank you for confirming I am not hallucinating

I would assume that E-bikes are allowed on the MMP even though some can exceed 20 MPH.

There are golf cart round abouts in Marsh bend on the golf cart paths, one near everglades rec center and the other near the Waterlilly bridge on the Marsh bend side

Different culture, I guess. Or are you talking about our over 55 ladies?

First time I came to look at my present house and I saw my neighbor wave at every single person, cart and car that went by (because they were waving at him) I though he was nuts. Then I realized, no, we all just do that here (on my street).

Sorry, I just could not help myself. Surely, this thread was getting way too serious. But I am serious and don't call me Shirley.
The thread got away from the original question of male or female golf cart drivers acting differently as they approached walkers who are facing traffic. Personally, I was more interested in that ORIGINAL question than the many replies that did NOT involve gender.
