I will be comming from NY to the Villages at the end of the month by car. Going south on I95
a)should I pick up I 10 to 301 and follow 301 to the villages or
b) is it faster to follow I 10 to I 75 down to the villages

Thank you all for your help in advance

I like 301. Watch your speed in Waldo.

Like Posh said, watch your speed on 301 - EVERYWHERE on 301!!!

It'll depend on where you're headed to in TV. As our place is in Duval, we take 301 south to CR326, just before you get to Ocala, and take that west for a few miles to I-75 south. We then head south to SR44 at Wildwood and go into TV/Duval that way. We avoid going through Ocala and the traffic/lights/cutting through TV to get down to Duval.

We've also tried jumping off 301 in Waldo on 24 and taking that down into Gainesville straight on to 331 which puts us on I-75 south..........but it's a drag going through lights and traffic through Gainesville.

Also, some people will continue on through Jacksonville on I-95 and cut across the state one of a number of ways to get to TV.

There are a bunch of choices - try some different ways to see what you feel works the best for you.

Lightbulb Suggestion

We take 10 to 301 and then down to The Villages. One note mentioned being careful about speed. That is very good advise. Had some friends who were coming down and go caught in a speed trap at an intersection on 301. It was a "true trap". Should not have a problem if careful with the speed.

If you take 1A to Callahan off I95 before Jacksonville it's a nice short cut. Takes away from that I295 traffic. A nice stroll into old North Florida. At Callahan you pick up Rt 301.

10 West to 301 South is 40-60 minutes quicker than 10 to 75 to TV. But as others have cautioned, there are three towns along 301 which require your close attention: Waldo, Starke, Lawtey. The speed limits there are clearly marked and rigorously enforced. It's only for a very brief streatch but you have to be alert and take it seriously. One way of controlling your speed is to use your cruise control. It's not easy to do 20 mph. A friend driving with his family was stopped doing 28 in a 20 mph school zone. Most sections of 301 are 55-65.
