Default iROBOT Mint Automatic Floor Cleaner

Considering all the many beautiful homes in THE VILLAGES with predominately tile floors throughout, I often wondered how they are kept so sparkling clean. For those of us who do not have cleaning ladies/services, tile floors are a real chore, especially in the kitchen.

One of my Christmas gifts this year (that I asked for) was the iROBOT MINT automatic floor cleaner (hardwood and tile)........

Guess we are slowing down........but just got around to asking hubby to charge the battery, etc.......I tried it for the first time yesterday, using the Swiffer wet pads. Unbelievable. Super clean kitchen tile floor.
It did take almost three hours and three pads.........but it looks like new again. Amazing how such a tiny little robotic gizmo could clean so well.
It even got the grout and the coffee stains near the dishwasher.

Today I'm doing the three bathrooms with glossier tile floors.
The kitchen was a rougher texture adobe look tile......I'm really happy with this little robot. Just went online to see it compared to the Roomba and some others........a male relative of ours has the Roomba and he loved it........that's what gave me the idea to get one.

It also dry dust mops with the dry cloths.........or instead of the wet Swiffer pad, one could use the cloth (washable pads) that come with it and a different detergent. It remembers where it went and really does a great job.

You aim the beam at the ceiling and it just seems to direct the robotic cleaner........it even went to the far side of the room and did all around the kitchen table and around the chairs and under the table AFTER it had done the open part of the kitchen floor, which is pretty big. When it got over to the dining room door, it knew NOT to go onto the carpeting.
Go figure.

Just love it. When I was younger, washing floors would have been no big deal.........but just slowing down now.

He bought me the 4200 Mint which is the least expensive at this site.
$199.99.

I mentioned this morning that I would have chosen the 5200 for the extra $129. over the original cost of the 4200 model.

I love the model I have and it's doing a great job today as well as yesterday when I used it for the first time.

However, after reading that the more expensive one does a much larger room area or multiple rooms....in a single cleaning cycle, plus has a longer lasting battery........I plan to get another one. That's how much I like it.

I hinted that he could get me another for my April b.day.....we shall see.

The reason he got the light colored one was that he went to amazon.com and it was the ONLY ONE he saw prior to Christmas. There was no other choice at the time. It's good, just for longer than three hours of cleaning, the bigger one would be preferable.......or for very large open spaces or great room areas.

I plan to keep the smaller version for the upstairs bathrooms , etc. and "if" I get a bigger one, will use that for the kitchen tile floor.

It's amazing how it remembers where it has been........and stops to concentrate on certain areas that might need a bit more cleaning.....like the grout. For now, I'm very happy with the model 4200.

I think you will like it very much...........it is a labor saver.

My kitchen tile now looks as clean as the day it was installed.

Good luck. (Read my above explanation please.)

I think I will order one now. I won't however give it to my wife for valentine's day. I think I would be wearing it as a hat if I did.

iRobot just bought out Mint. I think iRobot's original machines are better. Both Roomba, a vaccuum cleaner and the Scooba which vaccuums and washes. Also, a small scooba 230 which only washes, but tiny for bathrooms. No pads needed.

We had a Scooba, but my wife didn't care for it. Didn't clean well enough to meet her high standards. I thought it was good...but, I don't count!

Anybody using a Roomba that has a shedding dog? Would love to let the Roomba roam all day picking up dog hair - just can't believe it would work.

My vacuum canister fills up with about a bushel of dog hair a week. The vacuum robots are about 2" high x less than 1 foot in diameter. You do the math.

I hear ya, but there is one advertised for dog hair. I'm wondering if you run it every day if it could handle the load?

We just got a Rooma 595 last week, the pet version. We have an Irish and English Setter. It does a GREAT job, I am impressed. And it is entertaining. One dog was upset with it and barked the first day but then now ignores it. We bought it from the COSTCO website for $300. It comes with extra everything. We have wood and tile floors. It is amazing what it picks up. It just moves around the house and eventually re-docks itself to recharge. You just have to dump the dirt out and that is very easy.

Definitely NOT a Valentine gift.

Chocolate covered strawberries are nice and flowers are always appreciated.

However, she will love your thoughtfulness as far as the little robot guy.
Be sure to get the WET SWIFFER pads.........and the dry ones too if you have dusty floors. They are not the type for the upright big WET JET SWIFFER.

Needed are the pads for the smaller swiffers.

Or, you could just use the cloth pads that come with it and your own detergent.

Default Roomba reviews

We have had 3 Roombas in the past. Here is our review/experience with them..

Pros---they do a good job...going over and over an area and even under the beds etc, they are cool to watch and fun to see them with the pets, they are sooo convenient!

Cons, they don't do corners well. The batteries are expensive. We had several that would be down at one time...they were very touchy and become in-operable. We sent them back several times, they got fixed...but eventually would end up broken again. Alas, we gave up on them....maybe some of the issues no longer exist.

For tile floors, I love my Hoover Hard floor cleaner. Nope it is not cool like the Scuba. It is not automatic either. It does do a great job on my floors and I don't have to vacuum and mop ....it gets done all in 1 step. Also I love emptying the canister at the end and seeing the dirty water! (I hope that is not sick....jsut want to feel that it was worth the work) The floors are essentially dry when done. I have used a Swifer and My DIL loves her Shark and I have used it and it does have the steam but....I still love my Hoover!!!!
