Exclamation What's up with pond scum

We are new to Collier - beautiful views - but in the past month are seeing green "scum" forming around the edges of the ponds on golf courses. This is our first summer. What's happening? Will it turn into a lily pad pond? Who should maintain it?

It is probably just the runoff from the chemicals that they put on the golf course to kill weeds and promote grass growth.

I noticed the title of the thread of "What's up with pond scum".

Naturally, I thought it was a political topic! Sorry 'bout that.

The pond algae is caused by warm nutrient fed water. Nothing to get concerned about. It is an annual cycle.

Hemingway first wrote about it in his novel:

The scum also rises.
