Just wondering who would be the person to call to fix the outside box for power to the jacks in home. I checked to see if our phone worked outside, and it doesn't.

I have never seen an outside telephone jack, however, if you are talking about the outside power receptacles you may need to check the GFCI receptacles in the garage, you could have up to 3 of these. There is a RESET button, if the GFCI continues to trip, you probably have water (or moisture) in one or more of the outside receptacles, I just found this at a neighbors house, had to replace the bad receptacle.

Not sure I understand the question. If, it is cable connection, the company you pay for the service will check it out and repair for FREE.

Do you have CableTv for your internet and landline phone or telephone Co for landline.
If you have CableTv the phone connection in on the back of modem. This can be also true for Telco modems.
To activate all phone wiring in home you will need mounting cable cord connected modem to phone outlet and rewire in phone box outside or if located inside.

If you have an actual analog phone service, call your phone company, and they will repair any issue outside of your house.

If you are paying a cable TV service for a digital phone service, you only need to connect the phone jack on the back of the modem to any phone jack inside your house. That should allow you to use all of the phone jacks inside your house, because they are interconnected. The inside jacks don't need to be powered from outside the house.

But the phone lines need to be disconnected at the demarc on the provider side on the outside if you are plugging your internet phone into the house wiring which is probably the OP's problem if they are getting service other than from a modem. Our original demarc had a phone jack (actually 2) outside the house on the customer side for testing to eliminate the inside wiring as an issue. It was replaced when we had construction done not too long ago. #1 rule for installing VOIP service is make sure you are disconnected from any outside wiring if you plan to use inside house existing jacks. Could be why they have no service at their demarc. That does not apply to DSL.

Maybe. I have used my interior jacks for my Xfinity phone service since the house was new. There is no wire connection to the interior jacks from the outside. Maybe the OP just needs to cut an incoming phone wire in the garage connection box and use a digital phone service. I don't think the builder anticipates that homeowners will subscribe to an analog phone service. With the cost and all of the taxes, an analog phone service really doesn't make sense, especially when a digital service is almost free.

I agree. We moved into a 10yr old home. We have a Century Link hard wired line attached to a dedicated CL demarc on the side of the house. All the homes here have that. I would assume newer homes elsewhere do not but that was the "default" setup here I guess. CL and Xfinity. Our only 2 choices for phone and/or cable/internet at this location in Amelia. CL ONLY offers old fashioned phone service here and circa 1990 DSL (no fiber) while Xfinity offers current century service. Needless to say our CL demarc is unused but, believe it or not, totally recabled by CL back to the main box 2 doors away a year ago. No idea why. Before we went 100% cellular we had VOIP using our inside wiring which required a disconnect of the CL line at the demarc because the ring voltage can kill a VOIP ATA. It was very difficult to give up our 40yr old NJ phone numbers.

I'm pretty sure the poster is talking about the jack in the network interface device on the outside of the house. You would need your phone provider to fix whatever is wrong if that jack is inoperative.

Yes, the phone company will fix the network interface issue with the box on the outside of the house for your land line. If you sign up for their phone line insurance when you call them they will not charge you a service call. It covers all your phone lines going into as well as the ones inside the house. Insurance can be canceled at any time after if you do not want it anymore.

Your service provider help desk can help you over the phone call from your cell phone
there should be a test port outside the house or in the smart panel in your garage
they should advise you for free if the Tbl is inside they might charge you a trip charge
if you don't have a Tbl determination coverage or wire maint plan

we decided to eliminate all phone jacks in the house, house has ethernet wiring instead

Older dinosaur wired telephone junction box has Jack connection. You could isolate the problem from the house or telephone line coming by unplugging the Jack in the junction box and plugging in telephone. If the telephone didn’t work then it wiring from house out or broke wire in the Jack box which I suspect in this case.

Jack is very old and only few exist unless you’re still married to 1960 jack.
