We contemplating on building a new home in Buttonwood. However, we are concerned that there aren't any stores/shopping facilities nearby. We currently live in a very convenient location.

Does anyone know if there will be any shops/stores built nearby?

Welcome Jchase.

I see that this is your third post. I wonder if you have been here to The Villages yet on a visit. Buttonwood is not too far from St. Charles Street which leads to Buena Vista Blvd. and that will take you North or South for any number of shopping opportunities.

I wonder how far is nearby? A few blocks or a mile or so?

I think that you will find that it isn't too difficult to get to all kinds of shopping opportunities. We have aa good many national chain retailer here.
Target, Kohls, Walmart, Sams, etc.,and a good many chain restaurant too as well as a lot of very nice local retailers and restaurants.

I think Russ Boston will tell you exactly how long it will take because he recently posted about the length of his trip to the hospital where he hopes to work. Russ is building in Buttonwood.

I hope you will find it a comfortable trip to your shopping destinations and that you decide to join us all here in Paradise!

Thanks for your quick response. Or first home was at the end of Summerhill. We were able to go to all of the restaurants and stores within minutes by golf cart. We currently have a home in Hemingway but mainly reside in New York. Colony plaza is so close and convenient along with the rec center. We're hoping that shops will be built along 466A west of Buena Vista. I agree that it doesn't take that long to get to the stores. As long as I don't have to shovel shop to back out the car or golf cart, I will be happy!

jchase, Sumter County is building a new facility on 466A about 2 miles west of Buena Vista. We drove out to it and also saw a sign that says Sweetbay is going to open a store there. Maybe, just maybe, other retailers might locate next to Sweetbay and draw off the traffic Sweetbay can generate... time will tell.

Besides Sweet Bay, I know there's plans for a medical center. I'm sure other stores will be forthcoming, plus there will be the new town square with its shops. Shopping will probably be inconvenient for the next year or two, but then should be fine. Congrats on the new purchase (and glad to see you're doing your part to keep the 3-moves-inside-TV stat going).
