A Villages woman reported that a vehicle was stolen from her residence Tuesday night, according to Marion County Sheriff's Office records.

At approximately 9:45 p.m.,according to the incident report, a deputy responded to a report of an auto theft at a residence in the 17400 block of Sycamore Avenue in the Village of Chatham.

At the house, the woman told the deputy that before she went to bed, she looked into her garage and noticed her car, a white 2004 Chrysler Sebring, was missing, the report stated.

She said the last time she had seen the car was around noon the same day, according to the report.

According to the report, the woman had a hard time remembering what her keys looked like, the places she went Tuesday, and could not correctly identify the day, but she said she remembered driving the vehicle home.

The vehicle is described as a two-door model, the report stated.

Investigation into the case is ongoing. Anyone with information is encouraged to contact the Marion County Sheriff's Office by calling 732.9111, or Crime Stoppers at 368.7867.

Its quite possible that there is no car involved in this case. But then again you never know. Its scarey that she can't remember where she went that day, what her keys look like, but she does remember driving. Seems strange to me that no license plate number was given in the story. That would have helped the the law enforcement agencies in finding the car with many more eyes looking at white Sebrings. Hope that this is not for real, seems to be an uptick in crime in TV, lets hope that it is not a trend of things to come.

There are many medications which can impair memory.
Since many seniors take prescription medications I would look investigate that angle first for an explanation as to why she cannot recall recent events.

Last summer, I was driving my golf cart along the Buena Vista Trail and saw a lady who was walking on the trail but seemed to be resting at just about every tree. I stopped and asked if she needed help. She said she just had a few more blocks to go to get home and could walk there. I persuaded her to let me drive her and I watched her go into her house. Maybe I should have called 911 but she assured me she was just hot and tired. I felt, afterward, I should have done more like get her phone number to see if she was okay later that day. Well, hopefully she was okay.

Maybe the lady who could not remember about her car had someone take her home like I did with the lady last summer - but who knows? We just have to look out for our fellow Villagers and try to help when we can.

In my former life, I lived within walking distance of a CVS. So I would walk there sometimes, and sometimes drive there. Well, wouldn't you know, I walked home one evening and lo and behold!, my car wasn't in the garage next morning. Took me a moment to figure it out.
