There may not have been enough land to build an executive course but there was clearly enough land to build an 18 hole championship course between the turnpike and the wetlands - plus two pitch and putts.

And on the Eastport side of the turnpike, right as you cross Bexley, they are building Laurel Oak, which is a very narrow executive course right next to the turnpike. It would easily have fit along the northeast side of the turnpike.

I guess Eastport will also be "bore city" to you, since they'll have many of the same shops you see in Brownwood...

AFA golf goes, there have been countless threads from your neighbors bashing the developers for not building more courses down Meggison Rd. I explained that there simply wasn't enough land, between the turnpike and the wetlands...

Funny, just the other day, you complained about people bashing the southern villages. Yet, here you are, bashing the northern areas... Funny how that works...

Anyway, I'm glad you're happy where you live.
I have not once bashed the north. I love Brownwood. I like the music and the atmosphere and the restaurants/bars even if they aren’t necessarily the best quality. If the right home came along I wouldn’t rule out living up north. I’ve taken the golf cart to Sumter and Brownwood multiple times this week because I love a long ride in the cart. They are very fun places.

My point was simply we aren’t missing anything down here. We have live entertainment at Sawgrass with lots of fun and community. Wouldn’t mind better food but that’s okay. If people are complaining about lack of golf here is have no idea why they bought. But you folks acting like we made a bad investment are just being ridiculous.

Eastport looks like tons of fun. Lots of entertainment and recreation. Food and drink, etc. so what if I don’t care about tiny shops selling overpriced old man shirts and golf hats? Everyone on here telling me how horrible I have it because the stuff I don’t care about isn’t here, it’s silly.

A generation is defined as a time period of 15-20 years. Unless you are 50 or younger, YOU ARE IN OUR SAME AGE BRACKET and part of this new generation of retirees.

You did not buy for investment but retirement doesn't always go as planned for many. Health issues or suddenly widowed force them to leave Florida. This happens quite frequently.

ALL of us have our fingers crossed hoping home prices do not go down. The developer has shown his cards. He is willing to slash prices to keep his wheels moving. Will he HAVE to keep doing it? Only time will tell.
Amazon collects taxes. I buy from many online retailers. None of that is the point. You are right. They aren’t amenities, so we have all the amenities down here that up north has.

I could sell my home for a $150k profit right now if my year was up. Maybe a small house with missing lanai wouldn’t make a profit but I’m secure in my home value. Prices dropping in the dead of winter is not a concern for anyone looking long term.

I think you mean Denham, and ya, there is zero around that area. Only the poorly educated real estate purchasers slip up on that one. Worse than Oxford if that were possible.

It’s horrible here in Lake Denham. I’m sitting here wondering how I’ll survive the huge financial loss. Nowhere to go. Nothing to do. Nothing to see. A vast wasteland. It’s like Mad Max out here. Not even a gas station. I think the villages is going to put a real bubble dome over us and forget we are here at all. Oh how I wish we bought up north. Oh the humanity.

Yeah and you continually complain that Southern Oaks is too close to the turnpike...

Now you're complaining that Laurel Oak is "right next to the turnpike"...

Would you have complained that this mythical course, that hey had plenty of room to build, was also too close to the turnpike?

I think we all know the answer to that...

There were already 5 executive courses south of 44. People were demanding a Championship course.

There were plenty of executive courses already down there. The population at the time didn't warrant more.

The Pitch & Putts were built at opposite ends of the "East of the Turnpike" development. One in way north in Richmond and one down south in Lake Denham (?). They take MUCH less land than an Executive course to build. The developers know what areas will work for housing, what areas will work for golf and what areas must be left for wetlands. Methinks they are just a tad bit more knowledgable the either you or I when it comes to land development...

And now that the population has grown, they are building more and more courses...

But some people will still complain about them. The same people who would complain if they were hung with a new rope...

And lest you think I'm nothing but a cheerleader for "The Developer", I think they screwed up by not building the typical Pro Shop/Country Club next to Southern Oaks.

Having the Pro Shop as part of Sawgrass was a mistake (IMHO). My neighborhood Wednesday Championship Group almost always has lunch at the Country Club after our round. We have NEVER had lunch at Sawgrass. We typically go to Piesano's. Which is on our way home...

Oxford was never intended to be an actual part of TV. It was built for Villages support and their families

For someone who insists they don't care what others think, you sure seem to care a lot about what others think...

My unsolicited advice? Ignore it all...

Except for "the people up north who are too old to drive and need shopping centers within 5 minutes".

Not that I don’t care. I just don’t get it. But that’s okay. We all have different priorities and I really need to grasp that and walk away. But I get defensive when people say I made a huge mistake buying here.

When I said that I was not serious. It was simply a jab at the idea we have nothing down here.
