The liquor stores have been owned by The Villages of Lake and Sumter Inc. Three will be remodeled and converted to Publix liquor stores. The Spanish Springs location will remain as a Kindred Spirits store. that's a quote from an online source villages news.

I wonder why they are selling all of the merchandise at the Spanish Springs location if they are keeping that store.

Perhaps the 4 stores had some sort of shared inventory and they had to reduce that overall inventory. Or maybe all four are closing and Publix only wants three.

The whoie thing seems crazy to me - if you're taking over the store, why not buy all the inventory? Maybe they're going to remodel, then it would make sense to get rid of all that stuff.

Anyway, I've temporarily changed my loyalties to ABC on 441 between Sam's Club and Home Depot. A nuisance because it's not golf cart friendly, but I can get my favorite brand there.

The Spanish Springs location is, btw, sadly in need of a re-do!

the current owner liquidates to get additional cash.
The current owner would like the store empty so they can remodel or do whatever and not have to deal with inventory that may not be of their choosing or price points.

Maybe it is illegal to sell a whole store full of booze?!?!?!?

Take a look in the Sam's Club liquor store. It's outside of the main store because you don't have to be a member to shop there. They have a very limited inventory but decent prices.

If you are a member (or have a friend that is), the wines and beers are inside the main store.

Like a lot of the other businesses that were owned by the developer, now that the completion of The Villages is in sight, they are exiting businesses that are not central to their ongoing business strategies.

I believe that Publix has purchased whatever interests the developer had in the Kindred Spirits chain of liquor stores. Nothing to get too excited about. If anything, we might find Publix to be a bit more price competitive.

i have always preferred ABC. Better selection, better layout, more spacious and better pricing mostly.
