This seems to be a thing now in the coldest days of late here in the Villages, FL.

And I am not sure what actually works. Any Northerners have suggestions?

The little buggers have chewed my drip line to the bush in the front. I am amazed at how many and how frisky they are this year.

Our new rescue Lili (half beagle, half four kinds of hound) will be happy to stalk your squirrels. For hours. Her fee is a couple of treats.

Nature is a balance. We do not have or want any squirrels. Reality, they are rats with furry tails. We do have an owl. Never seen it but it works nights and I can hear it working around 2 am. Perhaps, cause and effect.

Some cars are wired with wires insulated with organic based products. It has been discovered that rodents love to eat that stuff. It can be an expensive repair.

I brought this topic up as some people who live very near the Villages have had some cars getting a lot of damages done by squirrels.

Yes, I think you are correct. I had a Derbi scooter up north and for 2 Springs in a row, it would not start. The cable lines under the scooter were chewed. Finally my mechanic wrapped the cable with a kind of tape that squirrels hated and the third year and after I had no trouble with chewed lines.
