I am interested in volunteering to be a Guardian Ad Litem and would appreciate any feedback or comments about your experience as a G.A.L.
thanks!

I was an attorney with the G.A.L. Program in South Florida and I can tell you that volunteer guardians can make all the difference in the life of a child. I would encourage you to get involved in this program. You are the voice of the child in the courtroom. Judges tend to give guardians a great deal of respect and value their input into placement issues, services, visitation, etc. Unlike other parties, the guardians are only interested in the best interest of the child. Even some of the social service agencies have their own agendas -- move the case through, return the child to the parent, close the case. It is a wonderful program and it really needs caring people to make it work.

My wife and two other neighbors volunteer for GAL in Marion County. They feel that it is a great program where they truly make a difference in a child's life.

Feel free to call my wife for more information:

Remembered this post when I was reading today's (Sun. Mar 4) Villages Daily Sun newspaper. In the Local Section, on the Opinion Page C5, is an article, "Guardians make difference in lives of troubled children." It gives information about free training at the Ocala Police Department (March 12-15) and who to contact for further information. Says an application can be found at guardianadlitem.org.

I know this post is over a year old, but I have a question for any guardians. Would any of you be interested in working with our book club. We would be interested in helping out with things like schoool supplies or uniforms, Thanksgiving dinner, Christmas presents, birthday presents, etc.

Please pm me if anyone is interested.

Thanks.
