A "real" sinkhole can pop up anywhere in Florida-----but the chances of damage to your property (I read) are about the same as getting struck by lightning. Fore!

The difference is----and let me say that I am not worried about sink holes----if a reasonable person is in an area where you can get zapped, a reasonable person will seek shelter to minimize the risk.

I just viewed a picture of the sinkhole. It doesn’t appear to be very deep. If this occurred under your home, I don’t think it would cause a fatality.

Do you see that fabric looking thing across the water? Well last year after a lot of leaves had fallen, I thinned the shot and it went down there. That made me feel better. Central Florida is only the lightning capital of the world! I think more people are struck by lightning in Florida than anywhere else.

Yes it is. And that specific one was covered extensively by the "Daily Sunshine" the day after it happened. I was quite shocked, because those type of stories are often found inside the local pages, not right out front.

The difference in this case is that it appears to have been caused by the leaking pipe, and did not just occur naturally.

But as the link you provided shows, they do happen here.
