Default Latest Internet Scam

Anyone know the point of this latest internet scam (?). Started getting a variation of this this email with different first names (Ron & Joan, Donna & Jeff, etc. etc.)
always asking for a "favor", saying not available to talk on the phone right at the moment, but please email me, etc. Just got another one:
]Ron and Arlene Pfeuffer <pfeufferrailroad@hotmail.com.
How are you doing? Can I ask you for a quick favor as I'm unavailable on phone at the moment you can get back to me via email.
Ron

I've been getting one to two a week for about 3 weeks now. What are the "scammers" trying to accomplish ? Since it does not ask for money or some kind of "emergency" (like the old scam that was going around a few years back, are these just to try to verify and make a list of "good" emails for targeting advertising ? ?

If you respond they then give you a sob story with directions on how to send gift cards.

They are also trying to verify a WORKING email which they will sell to other scammers, DO NOT REPLY.

Default Get this !!

I'm getting one from "BOB" saying he sent me a letter wanting to help with my large debt. Only problem is I have NO debt...
Get two a day from different phone numbers... Bob ask that I call him back "at the number displayed on the caller ID." I'll block those numbers and the next day get two more from different numbers..... I HATE SCAMMERS !!!!!
