Default lawn maintenance

We will be closing on a house in the near future in the Village of Woodbury. Does anyone maintain their own lawn or does everyone use a lawn service???

Don't mean to be rude just want to know.

Wisconsinites looking forward to becoming Floridians !!!

Default Additional Questions

What do the lawn services charge on average, both mowing and fertilizer/bug control. Will our northern mowers work well...your grass is much thicker than northern grasses? Thanks !

Hi and welcome! We cut our own lawn although I will say, in the summer you need to do it in the early morning or possibly after dinner due to the heat. Both my husband and I enjoy working in the yard and besides, we are very fussy. Most of the lawn services only take a few minutes to do a yard and as I have seen time and time again, do not weed wack behind downspouts, etc... and are just not detailed. They make their money but cutting the masses, and I get that. They mostly use the large machines, except for a few of the companies and if they cut your lawn in the same direction each week, it can get ruts all through it. We also don't want to have others weeds spread into our yard from mowers who have just been at another yard with weeds.
With all that said, depending on the size of your yard and how much work you really like to do has to play into your plan.
Yard work is not for everyone, so it will depend on you.

I've found that most people use a lawn service. I have been using Fernview for a few years. There are many services to choose from.

We use PTL since we are not there full time yet and have no complaints. I pay around $1,200 for the yr , incls cutting, pest control and weed control.

We use Stellar and as we are new we have no experience to share. We chose them because they were capable of doing all the services and their price was in the realm if not cheaper than the others. Also this forum highly recommended them in many posts.

To just have the lawn mowed and edging done you are looking at round $40/month on an average sized lot. Sounds like a deal, and it is, but remember they are not mowing in the winter except perhaps once a month.

Seasonal Residents probably use a Lawn Service Company year round. Many Frogs like to cut their own lawns.

From my observations, a much greater percentage of people hire a lawn service here than where we lived 'up North'. In our neighborhood, I'd say about 25% cut their own. Of course the part-time residents and rental home owners almost have to have a lawn service. Others have physical limitations that won't allow them to cut grass anymore.
