We live in Lake Deaton and purchased our begonia in July 2015.
In the last few months the toilet will start running to raise the water level. Obviously there is a slow leak but my husband doesn't see it. Has anyone else had this issue? Any ideas? My husband says the ballcock is unlike any he has seen before. |

At the bottom of the big black cylinder there is a gasket go to Home Depot & buy the gasket, then go to youtube & you'll see how to install very easy less than 3 minutes to fix--DO NOT put any bleach tabs in tank

Wow, this is a conundrum. We did start using bleach tabs because we were getting what looked like black mold in the tank and around the inside of the bowl. The bleach tab handles thhat .....what would you use instead?

There are two common ways a toilet can leak. The gasket (or flapper) at the bottom of the tank is the most common cause. However, if replacing it doesn't work, then you may have a leak in the fill valve, which will cause the water in the tank to rise above the overflow level and dump water into the overflow pipe. Sometimes, the fill valve will seem to work, but an hour or so after flushing, a slow leak in the fill valve will allow water to dump into the overflow. I would not put any chemicals in the toilet tank, only in the bowl.

You can also get these at ACE hardware stores. The large black tube will come out, and you will find 3inch (or so) gasket at the bottom, remove the old one and install the new one.

if it's a Kohler toilet with a canister, sometimes the canister will rotate and cause the chain to tighten and slightly lift the canister off of its seat. Make sure chain isn't kinked or twisted.

The gasket some are talking about is the flapper. the flapper is the seal. there also is base seal that the flapper seals against. again if water Not running down the overflow it 99.9999% it's the flapper (or Big Black or red Gasket as some call it). Very easy to change in about 20 seconds. Now it its running down the overflow tube either the float out of adjustment or the FILL VALVE won't seal when the Float arm puts enough pressure on it to close it. That takes about 15 to 30 mins. to change with some common knowledge of hand tools.
