As others have noted, they make LED replacements for fluorescent tube lights. Just take the old one down and bring it with you to Lowes or HD if you don't trust yourself to get the right one. I would try that first before going the electrician route.

I replaced the ones in my walk in closet. Huge difference. No issues with the ballast, and that was probably 6 months ago.

I took the one down in my garage entirely. Wired in a socket screw-in bulb fixture and into that screwed in one of those LED bulbs with the adjustable flat panels with 100's of individual LED lights. Again, huge difference in the amount of light I now have in the garage. Think the entire fix was $15.
