Crowd sourcing works. It will get people to contact people who can change people's minds. You do need to find those people who will be effective at doing that which might include someone who can actually make someone else have a change of heart.

There is a lot of misdirected hate on Facebook and on here against the plaintiffs in this Federal case. What we need is constructive dialog about how the needs of all these parties can be met while saving the Lifelong Learning College or putting in something that will replace it and accommodate those people in a reasonable manner who are deaf and need some kind of help. Reasonable accommodation which actually looks like what the ADA law writers intended.

As a visitor to TV while looking to purchase a home here, this is sad news. One of the many things that attracted me to live here was the Learning Center. I was planning on taking classes there.

Perhaps someone will step in to run it.

We are a litigious society, unfortunately, and lawsuits keep litigation lawyers happy.

Thus, the developer said "no mas". I read that the plaintiffs would not except any remedy other than certified signers.

Whew, ya'll are a tough crowd! Hard to believe it's the same kind and generous folks who contribute to all the charities are here. I'm just going to throw some of this out here...please don't hate on me! Asking for certified interpreter is not outrageous. We don't know the whole story here but I do know that anyone can call themselves an interpreter and I've seen people take a church sign language course and learn the alphabet and then decide they're going to "save" the deaf people and go out there and interpret for them. They get themselves hired and all the hearing people watch them waving their hands around thinking they're doing a marvelous job while the deaf sit there without a clue because it's total nonsense being signed. This is why deaf folks request certified...it assures them that the interpreter has done the coursework and has the degree, has passed the extensive required testing and knows how to interpret. It's not as easy as it looks. I'm not saying that's the case here and I'm not saying you have to be certified to be qualified but often it just saves time and trouble to get them from the start. I'm as sad as the next person about the closing of the LLLC but the guy has lived here for 8 or so years and just now we're hearing about a lawsuit? Maybe he was really was trying all those years to to get a solution. We just don't have all the answers...

"Whew, ya'll are a tough crowd! "
When something is taken/stopped/removed without full disclosure, you are darn tootin we are a "tough crowd ". Use of the Rec Center classes and ALC are part and parcel of The Villages Lifestyle", which, courtesy of a SINGLE litigious individual ceased with seemingly no happy solution. The Rec Center programs (amenities) and the ALC are a benefit of living in TV as opposed to other nearby less expensive retirement centers. Perhaps this is the real intent of Mr. S who appears to want, like the Grinch, to make everyone as unhappy as he is. I would think this is an issue national publications might be interested now that the election is over and Trump bashing no longer consumes all their time . We are instructed to "Reap as you sow". His day of reckoning will one day be upon him.

Yeah, sort of like demanding the instructors do not have an accent, as the people that do not share that accent would be without a clue...definitely worth litigating to force the school to close!

I wonder how long an interpreter would last if nobody could understand them? Do you think the deaf person would let someone know that the interpreter is not doing a good job (same as a non deaf person would let someone know the instructor that speaks Spanglish or Creole is not doing a good job of communicating the subject matter!) I mean really is someone able to justify this jackass's litigation??

What about contacting AARP. THEY HAVE AN ADVICACY department. They just fought the light company. We would have more than 8000 signatures. See attached letter.
Is this a possibility?

Worth a phone call or email to Villages news sources

Tens of thousands of Villagers donate to and volunteer for many worthwhile causes in and around our community. Seems to me, the plaintiffs (or most of them) should be qualified to volunteer their time and interpret class content to other Villagers who are hearing impaired. That course of action would have had an extremely positive impact for the entire community, unlike what we have now.

Now, that is the best solution to the problem that I've heard. They need to help each other.

I still think money, compensation, is their motive.

Without it we can take advantage of many of the other benefits living outside the Villages with a home much less costly. I hope the "owners" can figure out a way to work around this situation affecting tens of thousands of people who were promised this benefit.

I've been planning on moving to the Villages for almost a year now. Next month I'm scheduled for 6 days for another lifestyle visit. This third visit was to narrow down areas to live. With the LLC gone TV is just another very large retirement community. I'll probably spend 4 of the 7 days looking outside TV. Sad for me but probably sadder for all those already invested in TV

Let's hope someone in the Morse family read this trend

Not trying to be funny or disrespectful, but if the plaintiffs are deaf/hearing impaired, how can they hear the presentations in the first place and then be able to sign for the the rest of the attendees?

Sorry, but the LLC is not even close to the only thing that sets TV apart from other large retirement communities. There are tens of thousands of happy people here who never set foot in the LLC.
