Why not increase the course fees as required to comply with the statutes?

That is a terrible shame that because of some adults allegedly acting out they lost their rights to a good education. We should all be ashamed to allow something like that to happen to a child..In my opinion this is disgusting.:throwtomatoes:

There are plenty of schools in the area. No one is going without an education. There will now be room for new TV employees' kids. I'm neither ashamed nor proud of TV. Pride or shame of TV should be deferred to the developer. We didn't build TV. We don't run TV. It's like being proud of being on medicare.

Never looked at other retirement communities because I've always been focused on TV. My main focus is still TV but now I'm curious about other communities

From what I hear other communities have similar amenities but on a much smaller scale. These other communities will be compared to TV as the standard
I can promise you I am not a plaintiff in the LLC case. I also recognize that I have no vote in resolving this case because I'm not a property owner in TV...yet. I was trying to point out, as others have, that property values and appeal could change with the permanent loss of the LLC. Hoping this all goes away with no money to the plaintiffs.

Disappointed

I am disappointed to read that some residents don't care if a child loses his ability to attend The Villages Charter School. It is obvious those persons never had to move much, make friends, adjust to the school, etc etc. What selfish attitudes and disheartening to think there are people like that in our communities. As the saying goes "it takes all kinds to make up the world". :throwtomatoes:

I seriously doubt that the Lifelong Learning College's existence will have much of an impact on the property values. It is the golf courses, closeness to Orlando, recreational centers, Squares, and many other features of the Villages that keep the property values rising. And if it has any effect of the property values, the developer will get something back to replace it and very quickly at that. Greed really motivates well.

60 Minutes TV Show 12/4/16 ADA miss use and Lawyers

60 minutes this Sunday had a very interesting segment on ADA and lawyers suing thousands of business. Law suits were often in the name of a single client they contracted to bring the suit with the promise of giving the client X dollars per suit. Many/most of the business never had a single complaint from an actual customer. The lawyers actual fly drones and use google earth to search business for infractions such as a pool without a handicap lift. This appears to be their full time business. The ADA recommendations (?) are extremely detailed and cover things most people never even thought about. Many of which I'm sure are valid points. When the lawyers are ready to bring suit on a business they often send their contracted client to make a purchase and get a time stamped receipt proving they were in the store. 60 minutes interview with some of the contracted clients said they did it to improve conditions for the handicap but these clients have said they instead experienced growing resentment by business and often they don't get the $ they contracted for. 60 Minutes closing statement was get ready if your community hasn't been affected its coming. Sounds familiar doesn't it. Really worth watching the show if you can find it.

What's a "drive-by lawsuit"? - CBS News

My 2 cents as most people > AWFUL to let so few, destroy something so good for so many. Sure would like to hear the other side of the story how their actions justify the closing of the VLC and loss of jobs and their children not being able to attend The Villages School (which believe me is a big deal), if there is a story worth hearing.

Regarding the effect on property values.
Very subjective opinions at best.

It would interesting to have some sort of calibration like how many people bought in TV because of LLC.

I suspect we are the typical majority that had heard about it, but had absolutely zero impact on the decision to take on TV lifestyle.

Yes a large number have been affected by the closing. And how the communications of the procedings were "managed" has created a suspicion of what is the real story.

What I don't understand is why they couldn't use closed captioning for the classes.

How do they watch television or use the phone?

I don't mean to be unkind, but a sighner would be a distraction for others taking the class.

The schools in the area don't come close to the level of excellence that exists in the charter school, which on par with good private schools.

Most teachers in the public school system that I met send their children to private schools--the Florida public school system is the pits

That ain't the truth. I were educated in Florida and nutting is wrong with me education. Tonto once said to LOne Ranger about a city folk: Him not well educated. Him not speak-em good English.

Pig difference between good and excellence, do you want a pilot that only makes 75% of their landings or a doctor who is correct 65% of the time

Crowd sourcing works. It will get people to contact people who can change people's minds. You do need to find those people who will be effective at doing that which might include someone who can actually make someone else have a change of heart.

There is a lot of misdirected hate on Facebook and on here against the plaintiffs in this Federal case. What we need is constructive dialog about how the needs of all these parties can be met while saving the Lifelong Learning College or putting in something that will replace it and accommodate those people in a reasonable manner who are deaf and need some kind of help. Reasonable accommodation which actually looks like what the ADA law writers intended.

Amen, amen, amen.:BigApplause:

Where will this action end? Are Rec Center classes next to be closed without any input from Villages residents? The actions of a few have selfishly deprived thousands of people the enjoyment of education. As a by-product those people who were employed by ALC, and are now unemployed must attempt to find work within The Villages (three weeks before Christmas) in order to allow their children to attend TVCS. Did these plaintiffs consider the full impact of their actions, or are they completely self absorbed? I am legally blind, attend classes and activities and managed my disability with very little "extra" help, I have yet to be refused aid when I've requested it. Shame on you plaintiffs - The title "grinch who stole Christmas" comes to mind.

Interesting to see many comments like this from the perspective of both sides in this issue. Too bad that none of us are in possession of the real facts about what is happening to make informed decisions or comments.
