In a post regarding buying new vs. resale in TV, one person posted to the effect that neighbors change frequently in a 55+ community. What has been the experiences of other owners in TV; have houses in your neighborhood changed owners frequently or not frequently since you moved in? And is the rate of turnover higher in the older areas versus newer areas or is the opposite true?

Most people I've met usually bought a house too small or too big and thats the reason for their move and most try to stay in their neighborhoods.

In our loop of 75 CYVs built in late 2005, approximately 50 percent are the original owners. The other half have left for all the usual reasons. I would guess our experience would be very similar to other neighborhoods.

For what its worth, The cul de sac of cottages near us had 5 of 8 original owners sell their homes during the first two years. 2 left the Villages 3 moved to larger homes in TV. Our neighborhood of designer homes had only 4 out of 20 original owners sell in 4 yrs. I'm not sure why one neighborhood has a lot of turnover and others don't.

Faster than some would prefer.
We were welcomed with open arms, but we bought in a neighborhood where they don't look down at younger retirees. Many were hoping for younger folks to start buying. They realized that having a younger set to look out for them could be a blessing.

We researched for 5 years before buying. Now, 3 1/2 years in and we are happy.

I have been in Santiago for 13 years. Out of the 39 homes on the street, more than 80% are original owners. Of those who have left, all but 4 went to independent/assisted living. This is a "mature" neighborhood so the migration to other living arrangements is not unexpected.

In our new village of 53 homes,which is not quite two years old, we have had three homes sell right away and one is for sale now. One died, two went to live closer to family. And to the poster that said the older folks welcome younger people to their neighborhood...whether younger or older people are welcomed anywhere depends on whether they are snots or warm and sweet folks.

Many villagers are leaving to go to the village of heavenly every day here. A friend who attends daily mass at St. Timothy's says they average two-three funerals a week. Many villagers miss their families and leave. Many villagers don't like the prevailing p. climate. Many people have not found this place what they expected and many have found it more than they expected. I have heard that many villagers move three times here. We have moved twice in six years and may again.

Not one case of anyone getting any younger has been reported. It just is that most of us are getting younger at heart. I saw a villager with a binky at the pool this week. I lied.

I have to share that I am not a Kardashian fan but I love the new Kraft "Zesty" commercials. I hope I am not a dirty old lady.

That says a lot for the attractiveness of living in the Village of Santiago to have retained 80% of the original owners.
