Default The local other "news online" source has to smear our community more

I told you guys a few months ago that "the other newspaper online" is a tabloid rag, but apparently many of you like the smearing of our community spread across the country to readers who've never even been here.

This (screen shot) showed up in my Facebook news feed because some Friends had clicked "like" long ago to the "newspaper's" website.

Of course letters to the editor should be published. But the editorial lead-in that the "newspaper" added above the photo (starting with 'Kool-Ade' and ending with asking 'Thoughts?') adds more trash to the pitiful cries of the letter writer who was apparently forced to move here at gunpoint, and isn't allowed to move away, either:

I disagree with your assumption. I found this "other news source" by accident several months ago and try to read it every day. I don't see it as bias against the Villages, but I do find more information about crime and vehicle accidents in TV then the Daily Sun. It will publish letters that are critical about topics, especially the recent changes in the health care program, but that is what a credible news source does. Bottom line; I enjoy both sources of information about this lovely place that I wish I could spend more time in.

Exactly!

And the fact that they are willing to print 'Letters To The Editor' that may not be all gushing toward The Developer (unlike the Happy Paper)...is actually quite refreshing.

I could not disagree with you more. This "newspaper" is a rag and is TOTALLY against The Villages and trynig to bring it down. Not only is the newspaper junky....but then all day long on Facebook, they repost the garbage again and again. They have had a blast with the "sex on the squares" and all of the other garbage that has gone on here the last few years. They bait folks with their captions. Nasty, nasty new source. You call this credible?? Seriously?

I think it would be interesting for people to actually state if they are residents of The Villages when posting comments on this site or the other online news source. I have a sneaky suspicion that many of the negative post and comments come from non-residents. I am a resident.

I am most definitely a resident. The newspaper is a piece of garbage and I'm surprised anyone thinks otherwise. Reminds me of national inquirer for seniors.

Can't you all see how they accentuate the "historic" side in their articles? I feel bad for folks living there because it is a really nice original area in The Villages and this rag tears it down.

Keep reading ir, but at least recognize it for what it is.....

So it's a rag because it actually has real news about TV; not just the "don't worry, be happy" TV news that the Daily Sun has? It's not "totally against" TV. It is truthful regarding what is going on in TV. You're just not used to that.

Apparently you aren't on Facebook and see how they repost all of the articles over and over.......the seedier the story, the more they repost.

I'm very "used to" what's going on here. Maybe it's more the way they report it. Most of the news is also reported in the Sun.....it's just reported normally, without all the misspelling and sensationalizing. Sorry, can't convince me that this rag is anything but a trashy mess.

You're right. I am not on Facebook. I grew up. I also subscribe to the Daily Sun. They rarely, if ever, report anything remotely negative having to do with TV. The only negative news in the DS happens far, far away. It's basically a real estate marketing magazine in newspaper format. But if the local online news bothers you so much, quit reading it.

Agree, it is mainly trash. The may post a photo of a nice sunset, but more often it is negativity. When there is no bad news inside TV, they will go to Ocala, Leesburg, etc. for some nastiness.

I read on here some time ago the person behind the curtain at the other site was previously fired by the Daily Sun. Not sure if true, but if it is, there's your motive.

Then give Facebook a chance. You might like it and might find some useful "grownup" information.

Just voicing my opinion of the off line rag. I read it for a laugh.

The " letters to the editor" are by far the most comical.

I agree wholeheartedly, and that's why I said in the original post, "Of course letters to the editor should be published".

Any honest person of average intelligence knows what that "Kool-Ade" reference means that they just had to stick in there above the photo.

Trash. Utter trash.

I have agreed all along, in the other threads that discussed this seediness they inject, that we need a newspaper with some substance and news of our TV community that is not just "The Happy Paper".

Past discussions on this included the fact that, while crime reports are definitely needed, all the seediest mug shuts available in the vicinity do not have to fill the front page with the creeps, which overshadows articles about normal, decent Villagers doing all kinds of good for the community, the needy, and each other.

Gerry has it right: it's like "national enquirer for seniors".
