You know, like it or not, we are a community of 100,000 people. Within a community of this size we are going to have crime, drunk and disorderly, and unhappy people. Just like any other city of 100,000, we have our problems. (Probably less). I made a comment wayyyy back on the first page wondering how many people who constantly trash TV and the developers are actual residents. I think some go out of their way to make TV look bad. Why, I don't know. I am not going to take the time to comment about The Villages Health Network or the island under the Morse Blvd. bridge because there are other threads to do this. The point I want to make is the majority of the residents probably do not even bother to check the other news site or even this one. They are too busy enjoying the heck out of this place.

I know I will be soundly criticized for asking this, as others before me have, but if you are a resident of TV and are that unhappy with TV or the developers, why do you still live here? The homes in The Villages sell rather quickly and there are several other communities with very affordable and nice homes in this area. Why not just move an save yourself all the grief and resentment?

If you not a resident of TV why do you feel the need to make negative comments about the place so many of us enjoy the heck out of?

There is nothing wrong with pointing out some of the negatives to living in TV. Just as there is nothing wrong focusing on the positives to living in TV. Whenever I read a story about a DUI or shooting into a home or corrupt salesperson or unfriendly… I always keep in mind the size of TV and these are stories about individuals not the community. Any city with 100k+ residents has problems. I do think TV has fewer problems than cities of comparable size, but I have no statistics to back that up. My experience from a couple visits to TV is the pros far outweigh the cons. If you plan to be an active senior, come to TV is what I tell friends.

As for turning people away from TV, the Sales office can take some blame. First look at the trolley tour. I’ve taken it twice, 6 mons apart. The first, a nice elderly woman tour guide, had many facts wrong, example, all champion courses are free, the bonds run $10-30k so not very accurate. The other tour was this spring. A nice 80yo gentlemen guide, went on and on about the alligators in TV. He said stuff like: Yes we have alligators, don’t touch the alligators, there are alligators in this pond and that pond and that pond over there, please tell your guests to not touch the alligators… This man had a great fascination with alligators and spent one third of the tour talking about them. At the end of the tour, half the people on the bus said they would look elsewhere for a 55+ community. He literally frightened away half the visitors on the bus. As for the people with me, I told them in the week that I had been in TV I had not seen a gator. That seemed to help.

I guess they are looking for a place in Florida where the lakes do not have alligators.

Serious question here, do you feel the same about those who criticize our President or government?

Should those people move to another country?

What so many don't seem to get, is that the vast majority of us who DO live here yet occasionally express something we don't like, or a negative situation we experienced...still think it is overall a good place to live.

But why does expressing those things, seem to set so many of you off into 'attack mode?'

I just really don't get it.

WOW!

While I admit to having never taken the Trolley Tour, I have taken the boat ride at Lake Sumter many times.

While they do spin tall tales about the supposed 'history' of the place, it is more tongue-in-cheek and very few believe the creosote factory explosion. :D

But if your experiences on the Trolley isn't just an anomaly (which would be pretty high odds, that only you have experienced such misinformation/negativity).....I would suggest someone from the Sales Office pay attention to what you wrote.

Point 1. There seems to be a lot of people "treating" to leave the country over is election... Most of them will not be missed.

Point 2. You are correct, we will express our unhappiness with certain things here in The Villages. I have done this myself.

What I have not done is consistently trashed The Villages Management or the Morse family. This is what bothers me. They have invested millions of dollars to make this a wonderful place to live. Did they get everything right? Are all of the decisions made by the CCDs or the AAC correct? Well I guess that is in the eye of the beholder. This is where we can generate open discussion.

But the people who make it their mission to "attack" TV and the developers should just move on...in my humble opinion.

I think Bare was agreeing with you, Goodtimes.
