Default Propane Tank?

The word is that a propane tank attached to a gas grill exploded. Neighbors said nobody was injured seriously but the home had flames escaping through the roof for awhile.

Why would a propane tank explode? Maybe with all that direct sun on it all day and then the big pop? Scary

Judging from the picture in the Daily Sun today it does not appear to me that the tank exploded. If it had then the grill would be in pieces and I suspect much more damage done to the house. A more likely cause could have been a bad or loose connection between the tank and grill or the grill may have been to close to the house.

That is why my grill is on a concrete patio slab as far from the house as possible. When I see grills in the roof covered lanais I wonder why. And then I wonder where the heat and smoke goes. Up on the ceiling?

Propane tanks are pretty secure. The vinyl siding melts easily and those grills need to be placed at least a couple feet from the side of the house. I can't imagine though how the fire started to ignite the house. Please find out someone who is on campus.

This is why I have a charcoal grill. Not likely to explode.

Closing the valve on the tank after use is not a bad idea.
