Default Break IN

That is so sad to hear, I wonder to this day why we even have gates, anyone is allowed in, guess it helps the Villages sell more homes giving folks the feelling of being secure, know it did me...and within 24 hours after closing realized the truth. Sad that this happens, and NOT surprised this was not mentioned in the Daily Sun, it's controlled by the Morse family

Husband came home from golf yesterday and said there was police presence, crime scene tape, and a Crime Scene investigation truck in the driveway on the street that Tierra del Sol is on. But that is on the Morse Boulevard side (East). Winifred is on the Buena Vista side.(West)

There was no mention of the one he saw in the Sun today. No police blotter today at all. Maybe tomorrow? I know the paper waits to get the official report from the police and maybe it had not been released yet this morning.

Hula? How did you hear this?

it's being sent around internet. Also another incident where man was getting up at 4 am to leave for airport , opened his front door and saw a man in a hoodie and asked him What do you want?? He ran away. Don't think it said what village that was.

Gates are just a "false sense of security" not really security in villages.

be safe everyone. be cautious. don't let your guard down. Watch out for your neighbors. Protect each other by observing unusual patterns.

Was this email origninally sent from someone you know pretty well? I hate to question you on this, but sometimes something seen on one side of town becomes something on another side of town and something completely different.

Just trying to keep fear from spreading until we find out all of the facts.

I did not think there was anybody who even thought that TV even came close to being a "gated" community. The gates merely serve to some what control traffic.

Just about every single village is accessible to a road or one nearby.....just like any other community on the planet.

Lock your doors? Is really anybody who does not?

Unfortunate incidents? Yes. And remember to be inquisitive about the source of information in email pronouncements.

TV is a population of over 85,000....there will be incidents....however in TV thank GOD they are few and far between....safer than most places.

Does anyone have any newspaper link or police incident link to this home invasion?

It would certainly be in one of the local papers - if not the Daily Sun - if it really happened.

The police blotter is not published every day in the Daily Sun. I am thinking about calling there.

I called The Sun's news desk and spoke to a woman named Meta (pronouced May-tah) and told her that a stabbing in Winifred was being reported on Talk of the Villages and she said they have been deluged with calls about this and as far as she is able to ascertain it is an Urban Legend. She took my number and said that she will call me back, one way or another if she hears anything that can be substantiated..

Looks like the radio emergency log site I linked in my post above would get police emergencies as well as fire and traffic accidents. http://www.radioreference.com/apps/audio/?ctid=375

I checked up on the Miami area emergency log and that shows various police chases and the like. http://www.radioreference.com/apps/audio/?ctid=328

Words to the wise.

1. Keep your doors locked, even when you are home. It will stop someone from just walking in on you.

2. Keep your gargage door closed when you are home or not in the gargage specially when you are in your back yard.

3. If someone is breaking into your home, leave by the back or front entrance away from the person and start screaming FIRE. That will get you more help then yelling HELP. Remember everyone want to see a FIRE but most don't care if you need HELP.

4. IF and that is a big IF, you have a defensive fireams in your home learn home to use them safely and practice what you will do in case of an emergency that would require the use of your firearm.

5. Last, its best to retreat from a threat if at all possible and you can safely do so with out putting you or your family in danger. Call the authorities, let them deal with it, that is what we pay them for.

I know that Florida has a "Stand Your Ground" Law, the Castle Doctrine, but standing your ground when under stress and not knowning what to do and doing something that would be a life changing event is not what you want to have happen to you. With all the I training I do and know, I will still retreat if I can and can do safely. Hopefully I will never have to make use of the Castle Doctrine.

Unfortunately, everything that is "being sent around the internet" isn't fact. I'm not saying that this stabbing in Winifred didn't happen! But I think we need confirmation of serious events before we ring the alarm bells. (Of course locking your doors is always a good idea!)

I never believe any thing sent via e-mail at first sight. So much of it is BS.

Could that trauma alert in THE VILLAGES be the one? Just asking?
Do not know. Many thanks for the site. It is appreciated........

Just my humble opinion, but............

Several times, when the discussion has been re men on the sexual predator list, with photos of said men, who live in THE VILLAGES.....the concern of some of us has been made to look foolish.

Many of these "guys" probably have other arrest warrants as well as being sexual predators. How do they ever get to buy or rent in The Villages? Or, could they be living with their elderly parents and doing as they please to "earn" money.

Whether or not the "urban legend" is true as someone else stated.......everyone has to be aware and the local newspaper should print the facts.

Home invasions and stabbings or shootings or whatever, even breakins without violence, would give me the creeps. All of the TV homes are very easy to break into from the lanai and birdcage areas.

Anyone who reads the unmentionable paper out of Orlando would know how rampant crime is in the state of Florida.

Also, with so many on drugs nowadays, they need money to support their habits.

Maybe the intruder was surprised by the unfortunate victim who was later found by his wife...........?

If it is an urban legend, who in their right mind would start that????
I surely hope that it's all a mixup.
