I know my way around but when I first moved down I got lost every now and than and thought the fastest way to find my way was to ask a villager. [not always]
One time I pulled into a gas station/food market on 301 as a village couple was heading to their car. I asked if they could tell me how to get to Walmart. It was so funny because while the husband was telling the directions his wife stood behind him and was shaking her head no to me for about 2 minutes. I nodded my head to everything he said, thanked him very much but took her advice. How sweet; she didn't want to contradict her husband because maybe he was starting to forget things or maybe she gave up that battle years ago. Anyway, she also didn't want me, a total stranger to get lost. |

In my earlier years in business I traveled regularly. I had approached a gas station that was located at a point in this town. I stopped and asked directions to a client's home. The attendant was meticulous in his directions. I followed them to the letter. I was soon to learn that his directions returned me to his gas station...you want direction buy gas first.
On another occasion the client lived out in the country. I came across a car and asked the guy driving for directions. He said better than directions he take me right to the farm. so I followed him and after 15 minutes he sped off living me in the middle of nowhere. I am just happy that I didn't hear a strumming banjo in the background ![]() |

Barbara's sister was visiting us in TV. She had to make a run to the Orlando Airport. As she headed back I got her on the phone and offered to give her the exit number to get off of the Interstate and come back to TV. She declined, assuring me that she knew the way.
A few hours later I became concerned that she had not returned. I called her and asked where she was. She was approaching Cross City in North Florida. It turned out that her plan for returning was to press the "take me home" button on her GPS. It finally dawned on her that "home" for the GPS was in South Texas. ![]() |

Last year an elderly couple driving in Brownwood Square stopped and asked me directions. I forget where they wanted to go but I told them that they were going the Wrong Way on a One Way street around the square and they better make a quick left!

On the day before our Lifestyle tour was to end last year, my wife and I were in a cart travelling south on the MMP looking for Evans Prairie; the MMP took us under BV onto Turtle Mound EC and we thought we weren't supposed to be there so we stopped at hole #2 to look at the map. A man stopped beside us to ask if we were lost. He had us follow him to Evans Prairie and we barely had time to tell him "thank you" before he took off back north.
The next day, his picture was on the front of the newspaper. It was College Colors day, or close to it, and he was featured because him and his brother played for North Carolina (he was the QB, his brother a receiver) and they were the only siblings ever to be on the cover of Sports Illustrated at the same time. His act of kindness and our talking to an Ambassador on EP Killdeer #7 that same day made our mind up to retire here (that Ambassador continues to be a good friend of ours). |

That is really a hoot. I did a similar thing just after moving here to TV. We went to Orlando and I hit home on the GPS when we were done. It kept trying to take us to I95. Took me awhile to figure out that it was programmed to take us to Charlotte NC.
