Default lost pet dog on Pelican Course

I was very sad to see a little brown and white dog (Malteese, Shizhu (sp) type breed, wearing a harness, running loose at the 2nd hole at Pelican golf course. I attempted to entice/capture the poor thing, but it was very frightened and ran away. I told the ambassador, and was told the pet has been there for about a week.
I was very upset and could not forget the pet's frightened little face.
The ambassador had a bag of peanut crackers in an attempt to entice the dog and capture it. Does anyone have an update, or know if an owner has posted "lost dog" notice?

That's very sad. Has there been anything on the Villages' radio station about this?

The fact that the dog has remained in the same area for a week would indicate he's close to home. It's unfortunate we haven't heard about a lost dog. Is it possible his owner is nearby and lets him run loose?

Once up north I've saw a loose dog on a golf course so now I keep a dog leash in my golf bag and in my car in case that happens again. I never told anyone before but maybe that is something everyone should consider.

John I have been doing that for years and is a great suggestions. I have captured plenty of dogs this way and was able to locate owner 90% of the time.

OP perhaps you should make up some signs with your number and post them in the area where you saw the dog. Maybe the owner is looking for the dog and will see your signs. Most likely the dog will stay in that area, seeing as its been there for a week.

Last week I found a Pomeranian dog wandering down the street headed towards a busy intersection and was able to get the dog to come with me. I immediately made up signs and posted in local stores, gas stations, etc. The next day someone called and came and picked up their dog. It was a happy ending. I pray this small dog will be reunited with its owner soon.

Well that is a possibility, but lets hope its not.

Shrandell maybe you can take some water and some dog food down to the area and leave it there?

No signs.

I did not have a leash, but I did have a belt, but the poor dog was so traumatized, it "slunk" low with its tail down, and it looked terrified (the belt was rolled up). No matter that I have dogs, and used "come to me" commands in a kind but firm voice, it simply took off. The Ambassador told me that its been there for a week - not simply let out by a resident, and they are trying to capture it. So sad. I played a horrible game, just thinking of the poor lost pet.

Sumter Animal Control Officer, Stacie, is sending an agent. If you see the little guy, please call Stacie at 352-569-1960. She suggests we call right away for situations like this.
Please if you don't know what to do about a stray or distressed animal, post and ask for help.
Kitty, Emma, and Raull.

Kitty how awesome of you to contact animal control and having an agent go to the area. Good job!

Now lets hope this little dog will be reunited with its owner.

Default Lost pet dog on Pelican Golf Course

My husband went to Pelican with our dog to try to rescue the stray dog. He saw the dog past the first green before the 2nd black tee by the wood line. He took our dog out of the golf cart and walked near the area where the dog was. The dog saw them, seemed curious, but as they got nearer to the dog the lost dog bounded back into the brush and they didn't see the dog anymore. The ambassador was told where my husband saw the dog and he will inform Animal Control when they come later this evening. Hopefully, the stray dog will be found before any harm comes to him.

surfergirlov. You saw the little dog precisely where I did, and I am so glad I posted on TOTV as I hoped someone would find a happy solution. Despite calling softly to the little fella, he/she san off with its tail down when I got too close. Hopefully Kitty's contact with Animal Control can effect a happy ending.

Default Nobody and everybody is responsible.

Villagers, please keep trying to catch the pup and calling in. The Co. officer has equal magic with YOU for a catch. The purpose of the post is not to tell anyone the job is done, but rather to say Everybody STEP UP!
Post here and let us know your outcomes. Anybody can contact the country club to ask for a try at catching the puppy, or so I was told by CC staff.
Kitty
