Default Triming Palm Trees

The Villages does a great job maintaining public ares and usually the golf courses, but I have wondered why they don't trim palms.

They are really unsightly and most do not shed naturally.

Some leave the dead fronds on the trees, others remove them. Neither is wrong, but personally, I prefer the appearance of the trees with dead fronds removed. If TV was to remove the dead fronds, they would be constantly working on the trees. In CA there were many places where the palms wore the dead fronds, private homes and businesses.

I was told the decision to leave the fronds on the trees was a design decision. Fronds that may present a danger to residents by falling are removed.

I understand what we are seeing on some of the palms is called a "skirt". Some are left to actually touch the ground. Guess it's a personal preference.

Yup..that's what I heard too. It is also the "natural way" palms grow. Nature is not always pristine.
