Default Love bugs inquiry

When do the love bugs come, how long do they stay and is it feasible to still do outside activities? Thanks, Jen

May and September
Two or three weeks
Yes, they're an annoyance and you need to keep your car/cart clean of dead bugs, but they don't really impact outside activities

From what I saw in May they may be added to the endangered list

End of May and again in September, but in the last 2 seasons they were almost non existent.

Yep, the last 2 seasons were great here. They likely couldn't take all the BS generated in TV and moved to another town. We were in a park in the Gainesville area in May and it was like one of the biblical plagues. Also driving down to Abshier Farms in Belleville to pick blueberries, it was a lovebug mess driving through the wooded areas. Hopefully, they abandoned The Villages for a better love experience.

Very pleasantly surprised to see very few last May.

They are sort of interesting. My guess they do not taste good to birds etc. A BOGO special.
Bite one and get one free of any effort. Never saw a flock of birds or any birds feeding on them.
Find a Northerner to give you an ice scraper. Do not admit why you want an ice scraper everything is perfect in Florida as you had told them reading about SNOW STORMES hitting them.

They don’t bite, just a minor annoyance that should not cause anyone to change outdoor activities. Lightning on the other hand is a significant threat that can alter outside activities.

Don't be eating while reading this, but speaking of "keeping your car clean of dead bugs," I got my very first bug windshield splat in mid-May after several years living elsewhere, can't remember the last time that happened. Is that a love bug? The guts were kinda yellowish.

The last two "seasons" for love bugs were pretty sparse. I'm thinking they were still on Covid lockdown, and only a few of the deniers showed up.
