Would'nt it be great if we had an FM radio station in The Villages to complement WVLG. Frankly, I can't even get a good signal on the AM band at my home, so the only place I can listen to WVLG is in my car. An internet streaming of WVLG would be a good idea too. Anybody agree with me on this?

Maybe you can find an FM station from this list:

The FCC is considering a rule change that would allow all currently licensed AM stations to apply for one FM translator to cover their existing signal footprint. Perhaps someday you can hear your favorite radio station in stereo......

Wouldn't it be nice if WVLG would play some jazz or big band sounds a couple of hours per week???

Move to Del Webb, Summerfield they are going to put one in at a cost of $ 50,000 ++. I am surprised that you cannot get 64 WVLG in your home .

I agree.Had to put a external antenna up just to get it.FM would be welcome to hear all that good music and no stereo, what a shame.

It would be cool if they would do genre hours like some slow dance at dinner time. And Blues after that, then some bluegrass to wake me up in the morning.

First off, "The Villages" is not a city as far as the FCC is concerned and they would not license an AM, FM or TV station to it. If you look up the bona fides for WVLG on the FCC data base you will see that the station is licensed to Wildwood..NOT..The Villages. Because there is an allowance for a station to move it's main studio outside of it's city of license WVLG can have studios within TV. The calculation is made "as the crow flies" from the central Post Office of the city of license. Since TV is so close to Wildwood the station can have studios inside TV. To get an FM station Morse & Company would either have to purchase an EXISTING nearby FM station..of which there are none..OR..they would have to do a frequency search for an available FM frequency. They would then have to submit the request to the FCC. If the FCC agrees that there is an available frequency the FCC would allot the channel to wherever the frequency fit whether it be Summerfield, Wildwood, Fruitland Park, Leesburg or some other recognized municipal entity. Once the channel is allotted virtually ANYBODY has the right to file with the FCC for a construction permit for the new channel. While the group that did the original work often gets the CP..it is NOT a foregone conclusion and the FCC will hold comparative hearings to decide which group would be the best applicant. This can take YEARS. So while the idea of an FM for WVLG would certainly be a good one, the chance of it happening under current circumstances is almost nil. To the poster who mentioned an FM translator..a translator will only cover what is called the station's "city grade" signal..and since WVLG is licensed to Wildwood, that's about all it will cover. If you lived near Lake Sumter you would NOT even be able to hear it. You might not even be able to hear it in Brownwood. |

I come from a huge metro area in the northeast and there is no station either AM or FM as good as WVLG. It's one more wonderful thing about living here. I can also receive it on Channel 99 on my TV with Comcast. Maybe you can try that. I hope they never change their format.
