Have noticed an increasing number of LSV's on the highways. I followed one the other day north on Buena Vista. He was doing 35+ in a GEM. Tonight, a woman sailed through the Morse bridge totally unaware of what she was doing to the traffic flow. I wonder what can be via the County to limit their travel on highways only on roads with limits of 25 MPH or less. Petition time?

maybe this will clear things up re their use:

316.2122 Operation of a low-speed vehicle or mini truck on certain roadways.—The operation of a low-speed vehicle as defined in s. 320.01(42) or a mini truck as defined in s. 320.01(45) on any road is authorized with the following restrictions:
(1) A low-speed vehicle or mini truck may be operated only on streets where the posted speed limit is 35 miles per hour or less. This does not prohibit a low-speed vehicle or mini truck from crossing a road or street at an intersection where the road or street has a posted speed limit of more than 35 miles per hour.
(2) A low-speed vehicle must be equipped with headlamps, stop lamps, turn signal lamps, taillamps, reflex reflectors, parking brakes, rearview mirrors, windshields, seat belts, and vehicle identification numbers.
(3) A low-speed vehicle or mini truck must be registered and insured in accordance with s. 320.02 and titled pursuant to chapter 319.
(4) Any person operating a low-speed vehicle or mini truck must have in his or her possession a valid driver’s license.
(5) A county or municipality may prohibit the operation of low-speed vehicles or mini trucks on any road under its jurisdiction if the governing body of the county or municipality determines that such prohibition is necessary in the interest of safety.
(6) The Department of Transportation may prohibit the operation of low-speed vehicles or mini trucks on any road under its jurisdiction if it determines that such prohibition is necessary in the interest of safety.

Low Speed Vehicles (LSV) have a maximum speed limit of 25 mph. The GEM car was speeding!

LSV's are allowed on roadways having a speed limit of 35 or less.

No, I have not noticed an increase in the number of LSV's on the roads.

I clocked someone going 32 in a cart east on Pinellas (by Sanibel get) ... it was not street legal (ie no FL license) but had a snarky plate on the back which said "if you can read this I just passed your a**"

Obnoxious, stupid and dangerous ... if this guy hits someone the injury lawyers will get rich at least

Golf-Tinker if you are so worried about traffic flow....why dont you complain about the SLOW traveling vehicles that insist on driving in the left lane....that is more of a problem than a few LSV's on the roads.....at least the LSV's travel in the right lane

When driving my car, I will do the legal speed limit on that road in The Villages and stay in the left lane. You pass me and you are speeding!

yes exactly the answer I would expect from someone with no courtesy to other drivers. I pay my taxes and I will drive where I want to....lol and if you ever had any driver training it would have been keep RIGHT and pass on the left.

On the freeways and turnpikes, yes. But not on 4-lane boulevards like 466 where the volume of cars/trucks would not all fit in the right lane, and they have to be ready for left turns within just a few blocks!

oh thats right when i went thru driver training and in the DMV manuals I must have missed the section where it says disregard any rules when driving on 4 lane roads....and please how long do you need to change lanes to make a left turn 50 to 100 yds. not miles... and when driving in The Villages the main roads are Morse and Buena Vista and the majority of turns are on the round abouts....in the o/p's comments he was concerned about tarffic flow.

Sure. Just like the driver I just followed on 466 all the way from Rolling Acres to Morse. Speed between 40 and 45 all the way and in formation with a car in the right lane. Had traffic backed up in both lanes. Finally turned left at Morse. 466 is not a "boulevard", it is a state highway. Keep right except to pass. Merging into the left lane to make a turn would be a lot easier if people did that.

From the Florida Drivers Manual:

Traffic Lanes

Always drive on the right side of a two-lane highway except when passing. If the road has four or more lanes with two-way traffic, drive in the right lanes except when overtaking and passing.

Sounds like both parties just need to worry about themselves. If party A is unlawfully remaining in the passing lane, then who is he to judge party B for speeding?

Unless you are wearing a badge, it is not your right to enforce speed limits. As a matter of fact, you can be cited for going too slow. If you are impeding another driver no matter your speed, you are wrong. The manual is very clear, you should only be in the left lane for overtaking/passing, or turning.

Well said. Is it really that difficult a concept to stay to the right unless passing?

EXACTLY .......that is what i have been saying.....driving slow or even just at the speed limit and refusing to move over causes ROAD RAGE and that is why they passed a law and now ticket for it
