Default Mail Boxes

I understand that mail is picked up at mail centers where the pool is located. If one needs to mail something out, is there a mailbox to mail it, as there are no mailboxes around The Villages, or are there? How does one mail something out? Must one go to the post office?

The mail stops where you pick up your mail all have a slot for you to drop off mail. If you need to drop off something larger than an envelope (like a box or something), you need to go to a post office. There are post offices in all the small towns (like Wildwood, Lady Lake, etc.) surrounding The Villages. I'm not sure where the folks in the southern end of The Villages need to go to find a post office.

It would be great to have a few post offices within The Villages that would be a cart ride away. Maybe one day there will be.

Many of the pack and ship stores also accept USPS boxes.

Interesting question from someone who has been a member for 16 years. I would have thought this would come up sooner.

There is another thread about post offices within the Villages. There is one that can be reached by golf cart on the historic side but nothing south of that... yet.

There are several shipping services (UPS store or equivalent) that are golf cart accessible. The two closest to me are Pinellas Plaza and Colony Plaza.

Yes, I often thought about it, but I never asked until recently.

We were supposed to be living in The Villages for about seven years now, but our son moved about ten minutes away, and now we have grandchildren. It is hard for us to move away now, but maybe we will try again one day. I always loved the beauty, cleanliness, and quietness of The Villages. It looks so peaceful.

Pretty sure they all do. Just like they accept pre printed UPS/FedEx packages...

Our first visit to outgoing mail we found the outgoing slots hard to find at the TV postal stations and had to ask. It’s usually a small slot with a label on top “outgoing mail”. If not sure just ask someone there getting their mail.

You are spot on. All mailbox stations have a place for outgoing mail. The Villages is a number of CDD’S and as such not a municipality. Many of the southern CDD’S are also in Wildwood. A few are in Leesburg and pay taxes to these municipalities.

Yes, I never noticed the outgoing mail slots at the postal stations when I visited. I figured they would have to be there, though. I do not use the post office to mail out packages much, just sometimes to weigh my mail, send something certified, or buy stamps. Now, one can buy stamps anywhere.

My Mail station has a mail slot and just below a place to deposit small packages.

There is a Post Office in Okahumpka about 2-3 miles from the Village Entrance on 470 for those Villagers in the South.

The Okahumpka post office is a short drive for folks in the new sections near Eastport. It’s a nice little post office and rarely crowded.

All the post offices and postal service businesses mentioned in this thread are fine for mailing a package. But as I recently mentioned in another thread, if you're a Villages resident, the only post office that handles official Villages business is in Lady Lake. You need to go there for things like picking up postage-due mail or getting a mailbox key, even if you live in Moultrie Creek!
