Nunsense benefit performance for villagers for veterans & humane society/spca sumter
NUNSENSE, Benefit Performance for Villagers for Veterans and Humane Society/SPCA of Sumter County.
This show is Must See Theatre on November 8, 9 and 10 at 7:00 PM in The Savannah Center. The Little Sisters of Hoboken have an emergency on their hands. The convent recently lost 52 sisters to food poisoning, thanks to the culinary efforts of Sister Julia, Child of God. Unfortunately, they can not afford to bury all of the dead sisters and stored the remaining nuns in the freezer. The NJ Board of Health arrives on Monday, so the talented sisters must put on a fundraising show to bury the remaining nuns. Reverend Mother (Bonnie Williams) had a career in the circus and belts out a song like Sophie Tucker. Sister Leo dreams of a career as the first nun ballerina, Sister Robert Anne is a tough street wise nun who delivers a song like Bette Midler and Judy Garland rolled into one. The pragmatic Mistress of Novices, Sister Hubert (Billie Thatcher) keeps the other sisters on goal, but her singing will move you like an old-fashioned tent revival. Poor Sister Amnesia (Holly Jeske) can’t remember her name, but her lost memory might hold a secret that will save the convent. Dan Goggin’s script is outrageous, wacky, and a bit off color; but there is a ring of truth in the characters. Anyone who grew up Catholic will recognize some of these nuns or your Catholic Friends. Bob Stehman is the Director, Lynne Greenberger provides choreography and Kevin O’Connell is the Music Director with a wonderful band, A portion of the proceeds benefit Villagers for Veterans and the Humane Society/SPCA of Sumter County. Smash Productions of The Villages is the Show Producer. NUNSENSE is presented by special arrangement with Samuel French, Inc. Tickets are available at the Villages Box Offices. |

Saw this Off-Broadway in the 80's The original production opened December 12, 1985, running for 3,672 performances and becoming the second-longest-running Off-Broadway show in history. If you loved the Sister Act spin-offs this is a must. Really hilariously funny! Left the theater with a big smile on my face.
