I assume there are more dogs owners living in CYV, do you have problems with dogs barking more than a normal home. Thanks for any help.

WELL, I kind of think our CYV is a normal home. If you are asking if dogs bark, why yes, they do. All dogs bark at one time or another. If you are asking if there is excessive barking, I think that is more of a function of the owner then the type of home they happen to live in. Our dogs were brought up in the country, on a mountain. They bark at deer, coyotes, javelina and the occassional snake. We have been working with them to tone it down and brillant girls that they are, they are doing great. Can not promise they won't bark at an alligator!

We live in a CYA and I'd estimate that 9 out of 10 homes on our street have a dog or two, and I rarely (if ever) hear a dog barking longer than a few seconds.

The number of dogs in a neighborhood is not the key factor. What it boils down to is whether the owner is considerate and caring about others, or whether they are a miserable S.O.B. who wants everyone else to be miserable too.

What I've seen is that CYV's attract not only dog owners (because of the fenced back yard) but because they see the ease in getting to know neighbors and do social things with them....because of the closeness of the homes and driveways where neighbors gather to talk. Generally I think people who buy CYV's want to know their neighbors and not be isolated from them and their dogs.

If there were a dog barking incessantly there would be instant pressure on the owner to put a stop to it, regardless of the types of homes/villas.

I've lived in both a CYV and a house. No problems with barking dogs in either location.

Get a Bark Off for $9.95 at Wal Mart or various other places. Uses a battery and emits loud noise only my dog could hear but it certainly did the trick. Now all I have to do is say, "I'm gonna turn it on" and he quiets right down.

My daughter adopted a fox hound in city, she has a Condo and that dog can howl.She hired a pet sitter on 3rd day so dog would not be alone. Finally after trying many things she purchased a citronella collar. Guess what, it worked. Doesnt hurt her dog (she may smell like old clothes for bit) but it worked.

This is what we have been using too. I just tell them no barking and if they do, they get a little blast of sound. Worked like a charm!

What kind of dog, how old, and how much exercise does the dog get? Sometimes dogs bark because they're bored. Even some small breeds, like Jack Russell terriers, need a lot of exercise. I don't mean to be rude by asking about exercise; but I've found myself that sometimes increasing exercise solves problems. A tired dog is usually a good dog.

I belonged to a dog club in New Jersey and occasionally we had speakers at our monthly meetings. A behavioral specialist suggested putting a few coins in an empty soda can, cover the opening with duct tape and whenever you want to correct your dog give it a shake. Works like a charm!
