I've voted by mail for decades, including my most recent 3 years here in The Villages. |
We should go back to the old days and vote on the first Tuesday in November. Make Election Day a national holiday, keep the polls open for 14 hours, and make courtesy transportation available to all who need it. If you don't care enough to vote on Election Day, you don't care enough to vote. Don't give me this hardship crap.

Absentee/mail-in voting and early voting are solutions to real problems mentioned elsewhere in this thread. The current number of polling places and technology in use simply cannot support one-day voting; come up with a solution and perhaps we can go back to that. I suspect that in a few years many of us will cast our votes from our computers and phones. |

Or are serving our country in faraway lands. Yes, there does need to be security and looking out for voter fraud, too. Everyone who is eligible to vote, should be able to vote. And those not eligible to vote, should have their ballots remain uncounted, AND be held accountable; what should the penalty be. In my previous state, Oregon, they've had vote-by-mail for 20+ years for everyone, and absentee voting for decades. Yes, there has bee some fraud, but mostly slaps on the wrist. In recent years, a group provided a convenient "service", collecting ballots to be turned in. Unfortunately, they forgot. The penalty was negligible. Further, a few years ago, Oregon "helped" voters by providing postage-paid, business-reply envelopes for returning ballots by USPS in addition to providing ballot drop boxes. Yes, Oregonians complained that providing a stamp themselves was too expensive. |

It's not how to vote. It's how to verify the voter.
Any reasonable method of voting should be acceptable as long as the identity and eligibility of the voter can be 100% verified. This will be harder to do with multiple voting methods as there will be different security and verification concerns. Voter verification must stand up to scrutiny in the event of a dispute. This is further complicated because each state has different voting rules. IMO - This is not an easy task.
