Default Mardi Gra

Does anyone know the date for the Mardi Gra celebration usually held in February. We have some friends visiting in February. I would like to know if we can plan for this fun time while during their visit. Thanks SMP

Mardi Gras in The Villages as well as anywhere else is generally held the day before Ash Wednesday. In the year 2008, the day before Ash Wednesday is February 5, according to a Google search.

Mardi Gras is great in TV. Great costumes and fun abound in the squares!

Catch them.

Not long ago we had parades and TV Entertainment bought and gave out dozens of BOXES of beads to the marchers in the parade to throw to the crowds. Now, they sell them.
Used to be FREE entertainment at Church on the Square. Now they sell seats.
Used to be FREE entertainment in Katie Belles. Now they sell seats there too.

Well, if you're in New Orleans during Mardi Gras and female, lift your top and if they think your are good enough, they'll toss you the beads. Personally, I'd say buying them is a much better move.

And, Chuck, I don't even want to think what YOU did to get those beads!

Keep an eye out for booze distributors. The give out real nice beads. I too believe TV is getting cheap by selling beads. I have so many that I have gotten in the past that I just wear the ones I have.

In New Orleans during Mardi Gras you attend the daily parades and the people on the floats toss beads to everyone (no show offs allowed at the parades due to half the crowds being kids)(pretty girls do get the most beads tho - we called my daughter's sister in law "the bead magnet"). You collect as many beads as you can (maybe a large suitcase full) and then during the evening after the parades are done you go down to the Quarter (no kids allowed) and get up on a night club balcony over Bourbon Street and toss the beads away to the less fortunate folk on the street below. Sort of a recycling project.

At Last years Mardis Gras festivities at the Lake Sumter Square, they were throwing beads off the sales office balcony. I walked up to a couple who were desperately reaching for the beads to no avail (he was vertically challenged), so I stood up on my toes and reached high and wide and got her a whole bunch of beads and got a kiss for a thank you ( some guys will do anything for a kiss :redface
So, my suggestion is that you go with Donna and her husband John (hes Tall) and bead yourself to death.
