Default Going to the Squares for entertainment

is one of our favorite activities as part-time (for now) Villagers. We usually make one of the squares for awhile almost every night while there. My question is -- was that your habit as a visitor or as a new villager? And, has that changed if you are now a full or most-timer, and why? Just curious. Ed

When we were snowflakes, we would go to the squares just about every night. When we moved down full time, I think we only went there once or twice the first couple of weeks, and that was to the bank and Red Sauce for lunch. Now we go only occasionally when someone we like is playing, or to City Fire for a flatbread and a drink while we sit outside and listen to the music. Try to avoid the big events because I end up irritated by seeing all the chairs reserved. Putting that aside, there is no place like it anywhere, where you can go enjoy free quality entertainment in a safe, beautiful environment.

Very good question! We were really drawn to the squares when we would visit. When we became snowbirds we went to all the big events, Octoberfest, Mardi Gras, St. Patricks Day...loved the music and the crowds.

but now we really live close to Lake Sumter Landing and might run over to Toojays and pick up some soup or to eat there, but rarely go to "hang out". Maybe because we know we can...anytime we want and maybe because we have found other things to amuse us.

Being single and still a very new resident who only really knows 4 people here I still go to LSL almost every night because it gets me out of the house and around other people. Even if I don't know those people. I love just sitting and people watching and music is one of my passions.

Great comment "because we know we can.." I live on a lake and have two boats on my dock, and before we moved there I went fishing every chance I got -- now I rarely go fishing, because I can do that anytime...........we are funny animals.

I'm with you Suzanne, I love to watch the people and enjoy the line dancers, especially the tall blonde who is very enthusiastic and jumps to the music.

As a wannbee, so what do I know?

I'm sure it's true that when people have lived in TV for awhile that visits to the squares will not be as frequent as when they first moved there. They probably have developed friends and other interest they gravitated towards.

IMHO - In general, I would prefer going to the squares as oppossed to staying home and watching television. People are so interesting and social interaction is important.

Like anything else, it's nice to know it's there.

This is what amazes me:
I lived in New York outside the city and it is funny how one doesn't go to certain attractions like the Empire State Building and the Statue of Liberty that people from all over the world come to see.

Just sayin.............

Default Because I Can

I have always loved the ocean so I retired and moved to the beach. Now that I live one block away I go to the beach only when the weather is perfect, and If I feel like going. Never thought that would happen!

Hello Gracie! "because we can...anytime we want" but we would like to be polite...we are here and would like to drop by just to say hello! OK? Been busy running around, but we are travelling on CLOUD 9, we are just soooo happy.

From another wannabee -- I enjoy watching the people and the line dancing! And love to see all of the golf carts parked around the squares Would I go as often if I was a resident...I don't know but I hope to find out someday.

as newbie's we try to absorb as much and as fast we can this thing called "lifestyle"..But as time passes we either settle in, alternate our activities or something to that effect

Default We went to the squares

more at first, but now that we are here more, we find that we have been so busy during the day that we often are too pooped to go anywhere after dinner, except for some special groups or events when the mood hits us. Still enjoy dancing when we go tho' and it is a great feeling to know that it is there if we want to go.

Cool

I believe, as you're here longer, you begin to select who you would like to see at the squares. You have your favorite bands and those are the times you go. Unlike when you're here for the lifestyle visit, after you move here, you become involved in so many things, you really have to manage your schedule more...

The squares are a must for Yesterdayze, Street Talk, Cactus Jack and Rocky and the Rollers . . .

When we would "visit" e would do so much I needed a vacation from my vacation.....Squares every night all the activities etc. Now as FROGs we circle the things we want to see on the monthly schedule of events at each square/Katie Bell's and Church of the Square.Kinda "pick " our targets.

The cash burn rate of going to the squares, eating out etc. can mount up quickly without even knowing we were spending so much....

We do go to Savanah for a show once a month......

I love going to the squares, but even as snowflakes we end up filling our time there so completely that we don't go that often.

I used to thing we would go more when we become full-time. Now with such limited time there, it gets joyfully filled with dear friends we can't wait to spend time with. However, I'm starting to realize that once full time, we still won't get to the square more often. There are so many people we haven't met but want to, and classes and additional activities we want to do, if only we had more time.

Of course, I can think of worse dilemmas!
