Default Sumter County High Risk

According to an article in the usnews, (I attempted to cut and paste the link below), Sumter County, the main home of the Villages, is among the highest risk counties in the US for Covid-19. It states that an estimated 48% of residents have three or more risk factors, more than any other county. Kind of scary, be smart and stay safe.

Access Denied

Edited to note that the above link seems to work even though it states that access is denied? Not sure what's up with that.

Ok here are the risk factors: age 65 and older, low-income household, single household or one with no caregiver, household communication barrier, unemployment, disability, physical crowding, lack of health insurance, respiratory disease, heart disease and diabetes.

Not worried at all.

I'm not really worried either

However, we're not taking any risks that we don't need to take... we're continuing to play it safe...we wash our hands, wear masks when entering enclosed areas and avoid crowds. We're not interested in dining at a restaurant, we can cook... that doesn't mean that we're completely isolating and have no life...we get out and do things....okay so it's different than it was before...big deal.

Some folks in TV just don't seem to be able to grasp what's going on though...or they just think covid-19 will never happen to them. Those are the folks we stay away from.

Neighbor had a daughter and 2 young grandkids up from Miami for 4 days recently....another had a young grandson visiting from the north....Miami's a hot spot, going through airports and flying on a plane isn't among the safest things to do right now.

I'm surprised at the number of young families that I see visiting TV that just had to come to see Gramma....we've put the word out "no visitors" for us until there's a vaccine.... Yah, we'd like to see family too...just not right now. There's zoom, there's Marco Polo, there's email and there's always the phone

Monday night on ABC Orlando news they had results of a survey asking 5,000 individuals if they would get the vaccine if available, 34% yes 66% no. I find that both surprising and dangerous.

On NPR this afternoon, they said Sumter County's count jumped by 23 today, including four from The Villages.

Four in all of Sumter TV is extremely low number. Wonder how many of the rest of Sumter numbers is from the prison

The median age of new cases in Sumter has dropped from 75 to 43 in last 2 weeks. Just like in most new cases of the surge. Median age new cases for all of Florida is fluctuating in mid 30s. The 4 new cases from The Villages are probably some people who thought it was safe to go out to a bar or restaurant, who knows.

Of the 368 cases so far in Sumter, 32% are from correctional facilities, 4% from nursing homes. 13% of all cases have been hospitalized, 5% have died. It doesn't say how many of the 17 deaths so far are from Nursing homes, but I would expect 40-50% of the deaths come from there as that is the trend nationally.

All in all, The Village People have done an outstanding job staying safe. Take a bow

As long as a vaccine is proven effective and safe how can people be so foolish?

Those "risk" factors have been there since day one existence of TV.

Remove the label risks affecting the virus, insert one of the following:

higher risk of hip replacements
higher risk of fender benders
higher risk of getting the bird flipped at ya
and so on.

Our kids are also smart and we have come to an agreement that there will be no visiting until either a vaccine or the world is more or less back to normal.

Hurts like heck but it is what it is.

Think of how many die from the flu, yet there is a vaccine, that took years to come to market. Yet the flu strain evolves, making each new flu vaccine less effective. I so far have never had the flu, and have Only had the vaccine once, with anaphylactic issues.

I will not be in line for the vaccine, even though I am in healthcare, and exposed on a daily basis. Most times from coworkers Who get the flu vaccine, and still pass on the new strain.

Yeah me too, 100% should've said no. Everyone I've talked to says no to the vaccine, I really think that poll is a little skewed.

That's the problem right there.

We saw the same thing and couldn't hardly believe it.

I suppose it does help explain why we are about 5% of the world's population, but have about 25% of the world's deaths from this virus though.

Guess we speak to different people, the ones we know will take it when appropriate.
