What gives you the right to tell a young girl she shouldn't be line dancing with you. Last I heard we all can dance at square. Mean high school girls just become mean seniors. I see you in the white hat.

You’ve lived there 5 yrs, which is 5 yrs more than me. But in my short time visiting TV, I know that rude villagers make up a VERY tiny slice of the pie. People come in all flavors, sadly that day you encountered a sour one.

Girl comes in from San Francisco to visit fir or the first time. Lady ruined it for her and quite frankly me. I've lived here five years. Welcome to Americas friendliest home town?

Sorry for you and your niece. There are grumpy, rude people everywhere. I say go to the Squares, dance and have fun.

But look at their faces, they are like runners, you never see them smiling or happy looking. I guess I will be content with my klutzy self who just likes to dance with my sweetie....

This, in bold above, sums it up. That bunch at the square always looks like they have a grip on a dictatorship.

Maybe all the friendly people who welcome newcomers and young people ought to form a club with a brightly colored cap to put on and then flood "their" territory on the left side of the bandstand.

Flood it with people who dance for pure enjoyment, not for taking over some territory and belittling others.

For an adult to make a young person feel uncomfortable is inexcusable and is an opportunity for you to turn the incident into a learning experience. This won't be the last time a bully rears their ugly head and your niece, with your guidance, can learn how to deal with life. Getting angry or even rarely works. As hard as it may be, smile and saying thank you I will continue to practice while the music is playing, may have put the bully in her place without creating a hostile environment. You know your niece and my idea may be a solution I would use, but you know how to teach your niece a positive way to handle a similar situation if it were to happen in the future.

Just ignore them (her) and keep on having fun. Sometimes no response is the best thing to do.

I saw them with matching t-shirts a couple weeks ago. :icon_bored:

Thanks everyone. Feeling better about America's friendliest hometown!!

There are groups of line dancers who have taken many advanced lessons. They fill about 1/6 of the area. My husband and I accidently joined them last year and even though we had taken lessons we were not able to keep up them. One of the members came over and nicely suggested that we might want to join the others which we happily did. I'm guessing she got in with them.

Something similar happened to me last year on my one night in TV. I am like 10 lbs of potatoes in a 5 lb bag and it takes a whole lot for me to get up and dance...I received a snot shot from a nice woman about 10 years my senior and you know when she suggested I go to a less serious area to dance I told her that I was ready to move anyway because the scenery from dancing behind her was unbearable and that it looked like two pole cats in a burlap bag fighting. I was polite when I said it. Needless to say she evacuated the area immediately. I'm gonna be in trouble when I get there from sticking up for others. I'm so sorry for you and your neice, that statement was totally uncalled for. Some people are rough.

This sounds like a turf war to me. Wasn't there a serious altercation a few months ago?

Surfers do it, hunters, fishermen, now line dancers?

Good one!!!

With so many young boys and girls who have danced since there were 2, they will tell you line dance is a 2/2 or 4/2. These kids can dance around anyone here. Sadly that why someone doesn't want them to line dance.

Our grand just received a scholarship that allows her to dance any competition in the U.S. For free until her 23 birthday. She is 15, equates about $15,000. A year.

When she has encountered a person that tells her to get off the floor, she would apologize and leave the dance. After all she was taught to respect her elders, even though they really suck at dancing, and she has been choreographing for years she would wait till the person sat down then return to enjoy the night.

Too bad some of the old folks were not taught to respect others

That is awesome. You must be very proud of her. Congrats

There are some safety issues here....some of us like to dance but on a crowed dance floor, think Brownwood, an older gentleman literally shuffled slowly into a crowd of dancers to say goodnight to someone in the crowd. He should have waited till they came off the floor or blown them a kiss.

I was at SS dancing to Scooter the DJ with a young girl dancing next to me. Maybe once I could kick my legs up that high but then she decided to make a new row right in front of me. I was waiting for a kick in my total knee replacement when I asked her to move back you where she was. Which she did....I don't believe that should have ruined her night.

Thanks we are. Competition is her passion, but since she had wanted to be a doctor at 3, her summers are 6 hours a day of dance and 6 hours of observation in surgery. It's long days for dancers with ambition.

She said to tell your niece to chalk this up to a life lesson. Some people are mean and sadly they will never be happy. Dance away tomorrow night, there will be kind people somewhere
