I think line dancing started as a group activity, more than the reason you're suggesting. I remember at my nephew's bar mitzvah (he's 36 now), I was amazed when all the young people got up and did an amazing line dance.

Menopause meds--don't really know what they are. What nasty comments.

As I've asked before, didn't line dancing come and go years ago? Are these people that far behind the times or are they just looking for lost time when they were young? I sit there the few nights we go to a square watching them and thinking "you pathetic people".

Maybe for some. Obviously not for all.

That answer is...neither of those.

The word pathetic comes to my mind also. But not for those people dancing and having fun.

I don't know who you're watching, but the line dancers we watch sure don't look like they're having any fun; usually a scowl, rarely a smile.

I have watched this particular group of line dancers for years . Mark my words there is going to be a big problem someday. They are bullies to anyone who invades their territory. The biggest child police guard is the guy in the white hat. Children are easier to confront than adults - cowards. I have seen many an offended mother to the point of tears harassed by this group.

The guy in white hat wasn't very kind either

Sounds from everything I'm reading like you may have some things in common.

I have read this thread and find it mind boggling.

I have been at Lake Sumter Landing for the past 3 nights and watched the line dancing group on the left side of the stage.

They ARE having fun! True, these are the very good line dancers. Visorgirl - or Ponytail- as we call her is always smiling and she helps people new to their group with new steps.

Little kids running among them has happened and is dangerous for the dancers and the kids.

Those dancers do not "own" that space but there is plenty of space for everyone. Respect that they enjoy what they do and stop this ridiculous kvetching.

There is no right or wrong way to have fun; everyone has fun in their own way.
Please, be gentle and kind to everyone you meet.

Except that OP's niece is 30. That's hardly a little kid running among them. And it's hardly Visor Girl helping someone new to their group with new steps.

That weird look is just gas! :boom:

I'm not going to judge whether those people are having fun or not, but its interesting that someone brought that up. We too had noticed that most of the line dancers rarely smile. They look very serious, probably concentrating on their dance steps. Back to the original topic, I don't think there is any law that says if you line dance, you have to get all the steps right. From the sounds of it, she was following along and was not in anyone's way. They probably have their own little clique, and didn't like a newcomer. Not acceptable at the town square.

rustyp 04-13-2016 06:17 AM

To the right. To the left. Now back - go forward and turn. I smile about that all the time.
