I was in Newell over the weekend and the Road Closed - No Trespassing signs are no longer up on Meggison. The signs have been up since last summer but have been gradually moving south as Newell and Lake Denham are being built.
I haven't seen an official notice that it has opened but cars were going all the way down to 470. |

Yes open to 470 when we drove there by cart yesterday, and yes open to cars. The last mile or so doesn’t have the final top coat of asphalt. Also, we went on Sunday and no construction traffic. So much going on in that area I would not recommend the drive there during the work week, Sunday afternoon seemed fine.

Are there exit ramps on the Turnpike that would allow you to get off at 470 and enter the Villages from the South side?

You are correct! You can get on it northbound at 470! That is good news - people can get to Orlando or Ocala more quickly now that Meggison is open.

This is correct.

Official not yet. But it’s getting close. The final top coat for the last mile is still needing to be done. Than the lines and stripes. Still a lot of heavy equipment moving about so it’s still very dangerous. I would not recommend trying to use the road. When I was there Sunday afternoon there was Leesburg’s finest parked on Chandler Dr. popping his blues when people tried to turn In from 470.

I've taken it for a month now. Some visitors even took it 3 months ago when the road was dirt. Their app told them to take it. I was surprised. There may be some nails on the road though.

So other construction vehicles can move more easily.

I was in that area two days ago, Sunday, on a bicycle and observed a sign for construction zone while traveling south on Meggison Road.

The time savings is minimal. I only saved 3 minutes but the mileage saved was 7 miles versus the regular route.
