Default New Home Construction

Does anyone have any experience with not being local while your new home is under construction? I would appreciate hearing about your experiences whether good or bad.

We have a great neighbor! She moved in the day before we headed home....now keep in mind, our lot was empty. She emailed us a continuous stream of pictures and that sure helped. We close on Friday 2/22 ....my husband is currently enroute and I fly in on Sunday ( someone has to work!) this will be the first time we have seen it in person, but the pictures sure helped us get through the angst of waiting! (Thanks Carol!!!!!)

Welcome to the forum Judy.

This is a link to a thread that has many references to people building a new home and not being present to watch it. If you are building you will be in the newer areas and might be able to connect with one of the frequent posters on this thread who might keep an eye out on it for you.

Our rep had a great guy who sent us pictures twice a week, we saw almost every step...what a great slide show! We walk thru next week and cannot wait to see it for real. We wish he was sending pictures of the tree growing, we are so addicted to the pix! We moved from CT to CA never seeing the home until we got there, and then from CA to GA, house was in Sheetrock when we purchased ...... The pictures have helped I n credibly! Plus meeting your neighbors, perhaps here on TOTV gives you eyes everywhere!
Best of luck......

We did not see our home until closing. Our rep had a photographer send us pictures every Monday and info updating us on the progress. One of our new neighbors who moved before us send us some reports too. It was great.

Once you buy a lot, how long does it take to build your house?
We were hoping to buy a spec house but now thinking of building.
Thanks!

Dirt lot on 2/13/12. Closed and moved in on 4/11/12. Built a designer Lily. We were here to watch the build. It was fun and fast! Thus far no major issues with the build. Just a couple of little issues with our hardwood flooring and garage door alignment when we moved in which were fixed immediately by the warranty dept.. Will be hiring a home inspector for our 1 year inspection and do not expect to find any major issues. Our neighbors had few if any issues at 1 year and all were fixed. Life is Good!

Batman
What caused the delay from late August to the design
meeting not being until December?
Did you want that for some reason?

We are just listing our house, want to build but first
want to see what the market will be like.

I thought once you bought a lot you had the design
meeting within a month.

We were in Ark while house was being builit. Friends and realtor keep an eye on construction and sent picutres all the time. No problems for us.
