Default MetroPCS phone question

My mother-in-law is just moving into TV and needs phone service. Comcast and Brighthouse combos are high for what she needs (basic cable and phone) so we are looking at MetroPCS and an attic antenna (already discussed in another forum). Has anyone had experience with them? Looks like $30 a month should do since she doesn't use the internet.

I use my MetroPCS phone for business, and personal calls all day. Works great...and I'm all over The Villages

I broke a phone some years ago (blackberry). Switched to StraightTalk @ Walmart in a pinch. They moved my number, took care of everything in less than ten minutes. I pay $45 a month, unlimited everything, phone does "hot spot" and works great all over the country. Oh, and if I break a phone - walk into any walmart, get a new phone for as little as $20. Plug in your SIM card and walk away (can also pay your bill at any cashier at any walmart). I have not looked back...and hate that I was paying over $120 a month to ATT.

Is this just for "talking" or are there other things going to need dial tone?
