Tax credit is effective for products (e.g. qualifying mini splits) purchased and installed between January 1, 2023, and December 31, 2032.

You can claim 30% of project cost; $2,000 maximum amount credited.

Wasting money and a lot of it. Go on Facebook Marketplace search "mini split install" let one of those guys do it 2500 total bill. No permits no nothing, just done. Cheap and high quality product plus quality install. Or do it the legal way and spend 7k.

Up to an $8,000 combination rebate/tax credit for installing an electric heat pump system-If your system is now not all electric-you could replace your main system with a heat pump, and just include ducting a lanai area,or whatever else you were considering. IF your income qualifies (pretty high threshold for at least half that mount). Part of the Inflation Reduction Act and called 'HEEHRA' Understanding The High Efficiency Electric Home Rebate Act (HEEHRA) - CleanTechnica

Before you discount it,'low' income is defined as less than $68,000,and moderate income is defined as no more than $124K a year (both per couple).

I know this doesn’t answer your question about a mini-split, but when we added <solar tubes> a year and 1/2 ago , The Solar Guys provided all of the information and forms to file at tax time .
Kalos installed 3 mini-splits for us in April (2 lanai, 1 garage), and never mentioned anything about tax credits. Interesting.

Interesting. We added a lanai mini split in ‘22. The energy star link posted above shows air source heat pumps as being eligible, but if you look at IRS instructions for form 5695 it only lists geothermal heat pumps.

In the MA home, we have a wall and 2 ceiling units. The ceiling unit is definitely the way to go if the ceiling is normal height and you want the invisibility . . . .

Has it helped in the garage?
