I was just wondering how many folks in TV do their minor car maintainence in their own driveways or garages. My husband (I would call him Mr. Hawkeye, but he is really Mr. Boilermaker) has always changed the oil, changed the transmission filter and fluid, changed the brake pads and other things similar thru the years.(I suspect he is an engineer with a pit crew guy inside waiting to get out!) He enjoys doing this sort of thing and I am sure he would like to continue for as long as he can during retirement.
He has never had the vehicles up on blocks or anything...and usually does the work in the gargage. I know there are restrictions on parking, etc., and just wondered if basic auto maintainence is allowed. Thanks for the info! |

From what I know, it is okay to work on a car in the garage any time. You shoud be able to do minor work in the driveway during the day, but don't let the car sit outside overnight with tools, parts, etc. So, your hubby should be fine.
I have a friend whose hubby's hobby is rebuilding old cars. He does have the cars (now on his 4th here) on blocks, but only in his garage. His wife is one of those who would die before she breaks any rule; so, there is no way she'd let him do this if it wasn't okay.

You are NOT supposed to work on vehicles in your driveway. Read the rules.

Is it really necessary to be abrupt with your response? It also says in the rules only 1 pet per household and we all know that is not enforced so I say, work on your car in your driveway providing your neighbor is not F16 1UB

I do regular maintenance on all my vehicles in my garage and driveway. Always during the day.

Thanks everyone for your input! Mr. Boilermaker reminded me that he does 99.9% of his car maintainence in the garage during the day, so I think he'll be fine. I just wonder how much car upkeep he will be doing with all of the available golf!
On another car related question...I am sure this has been discussed many times on TOTV...but I haven't seen it since I joined in November...have many of you decided after living in TV for awhile that you don't need 2 cars? I wonder if 1 car and 2 golf carts are more practical for daily life. Also, can you park a car overnight in the driveway? How do the CYV owners handle 2 vehicles with a 1 and a half stall garage? |

Doesn't seem to be a problem with parking in the driveway 24/7. I have a very full garage, so my car is always in the driveway. So far, no one has said a word.
I would go the 2-cart/1-car route. You really only need the car if you're leaving TV or if the weather is really vile (too hot, too cold, too wet). If you're like me, you'll even take the cart out in the bad weather (no choice -- someone destroyed the top to my Miata, so really only comfortable in nice weather). There is guest parking available in the CYVs. Technically, residents aren't supposed to park their cars there, but they do all the time. Two cars in a CYV really are a royal pain in the neck -- one in the garage, one in the driveway or in the guest parking. All the more reason to get rid of a car.

Some kids smashed the rear window when it was cold Thanksgiving before last. The plastic literally shattered.

You surely are not nitpicking and the deed restrictions probably do state 2 pets...I just happen to use the 1pet to make my point of what I thought was a harsh posting by the previous poster. No harm done.

Sorry you took F16's post as being harsh and abrupt. I believe he didn't mean to be mean; sometimes computer typing is a pain. Please give him a second chance to make friends.

I think the abruptness was due to someone missstating the rules entirely and F16 rarely writes long sentences (methinks the man is a one-finger typist). Work on your car daily in the driveway and I'm willing to be someone would get upset and call Community Watch. Work on your car in the driveway occasionally, I can't imagine there being any problem. The biggie, from what I've seen and heard, is leaving tools and parts out. That becomes an issue.
