Dr B - I, for one, am glad you started this thread. As CFrance said, it was an attempt to seek information and I think it did result in just that. The information presented that something is indeed going on in the historical section (although different from the rumor that you heard) is very good news IMHO. Hearing that there may be some revitalization in that area, initiated by the developer, gives me a good feeling about his commitment to the future of The Villages. Having lived in other communities with HOA's running the show, I would rather see the Morse's continue holding the reins!

I have known you for some time on this forum and enjoyed your music too. You have always been a responsible poster, well thought out and very fair. You add so much to this forum and to Villages.

I saw when you posted the very first post that you heard a rumor and there was some interesting activities going on in your neck of the woods. The historic district is a beautiful part of The Villages. It is aging, we are aging, the whole place is aging. Florida sun and humidity is hard on houses and things in general. I am hoping that the developer saw an opportunity to do a little sprucing up in the historic district and keep his crews employed for a little while longer and if that happens he will make some money too.

That's the American way.

Jim, You are a such an addition to TOTV.

Whoa...No offense was intended. While I agree that there are manufactured homes set on foundations, there are also trailer homes in the historical district that have had the hitch cut off, wheels pulled off, and skirting installed. IN MY OPINION the trailer homes have a dated look, possibly that is why the new homes being built today do not have 2/12 pitch roofs?

Actually, none of the homes here are trailers. They are all manufactured homes. Some call them mobile homes, but they are really not very mobile. They are brought on trailers and set on cement blocks and tied down. The trailers are then removed.
Some are single wides and most are double wide, but as far as I know, none have had their hitch cut off. Yes, some of them have not been maintained to a standard that most of us would like to see. And that includes both single and double wide. But if you drive around, you'll see plenty of single wides that are absolutely lovely and perfectly maintained.
Personally I think that in time there will be very few manufactured homes in the historic district, but every time I think that, I see old ones torn down and a new manufactured home out in it's place.
There is a brand new one on my street that replaced an old single wide that was destroyed in a fire. There's another a few blocks from me that was installed about a year ago and there are two more that I see on my bike rides that are currently under construction.
Personally, I get a bit insulted when I hear people referred to my home as a trailer.

Thank you, Gracie, but I was referring to the posted comment, "unbelievable" after I posted the history of the historic district an how Harold Schwartz started The Villages. I believe that what I posted was pretty factual. Some people seem to have the impression the the historic district was added onto the the "Real Villages" and that somehow it just doesn't belong.
The truth is, as I posted, everything southwest of 27/441 was added onto the historic district to create The Villages. It's called The Historic District because this is where it all began.

I concur :clap2:

BUT, I heard a rumor from a guy who heard it from his grandson, who heard it from another toddler in the playground THAT: Dr Winston O Boogie jr AND graciegirl are in FACT the same person. Thinking about it, I see a similarity in their writing styles. Has anyone seen them together in the same place at the same time?

I am just putting that rumor out there for discussion.

Either way I love all of their posts. :bigbow:

Back on topic, sort of. The Historic side is great and getting better. Everything is so close, all stores, doggy park, Spanish Springs Town Square. Its fun crossing the golf cart bridge, closing your eyes when there is on oncoming cart. :)

Are there any meetings of Historic Side residents?

perrjojo 06-25-2014 08:34 AM

At this point we do not know whether the "rumor" is true but we DO KNOW that something is going on in the Historic district as the homes are being bought very quickly and in larger than usual numbers. It's not a coincidence.

How recent were these sales and why would the records not show the change yet?

Sales have been in this month. I don't know how long Sumter county takes to record Deeds but where we lived previously it took 30 to 60 days.

Ten of these homes are still pending in Silver Lake and Country Club Hills, so obviously some have not closed yet.

graciegirl 06-25-2014 11:56 AM

Those areas are in Lake County aren't they?

Thanx for responding. Since I knew that the historic district is in Lake County I checked property records where I knew some original homes were located - but did not see any transfers recorded recently. Will try to remember to follow-up later! This intrigues me!

Maria, if this is happening, I think it will be good for the present owners and prospective owners too. Just my opinion.

Amen! Looking forward to it! Though I must say that my bubble burst when I read the previous post stating $200/$300k homes will never be sold in our neighborhoods!!! I had such hope until then!!! ;)

Personally, I appreciate and enjoy the ambiance of the Historic side, finding it soothing and tranquil as well as idyllic. I love the mature landscaping, especially the large shade trees. Its rolling hills and water features are wonderful.
