I was driving my brand new golf cart into my brand new garage and I didn't notice that the brand new garage door was not all the way up and I ran into it

I backed through the electric screen which slides down outside the garage door. Immediately had to go inside and have a tall glass of bourbon. Took two months to get it fixed and $360. I probably won't do it again. I suspect that you will remember to wait from now on.

We are all our own worst enemies. Me, since I got the darn bi-focals, I keep banging my head. It's starting to look like a golf ball.

If you only banged up the door and didn't break anything on the cart, then you're not in too bad of shape.
Don't feel bad: A few years back, I pulled a car (manual trans - not automatic) into our garage, shut it off, got distracted by something - then got out of the car and went out to our storage building to get the mower out to cut the grass. Noticed the garage door on the attached garage (100'+ away from the storage building) was still up so I hit the remote from the building to shut it, hopped on the mower......and noticed the garage door was still up. Hit the remote again and watched the door come down......on the car......then go back up again! WHOA!!! Turns out I'd left the car in neutral without pulling the parking brake and it drifted backwards just a bit. The garage door was coming down, hitting the rear bumper, then reversing direction due to the resistance. Fortunate for me that it only scraped paint on the bumper and did no damage to the door. A little bit of paint touch up and some polishing took car of the bumper. Still have the car - and I think about my lapse every time I look at that bumper!! ![]() We all have our moments........I tend to have an inordinate number of them. ![]() Bill....the Mental Midget ![]() |

Been there and done that one. Had to replace the lower panel of the garage door. Cart was fine. I am not as quick to pull in now!

Turns out the door had never fully retracted all the way up, which he never realized as he was looking at his map, but it was high enough to be out of view when he looked in his rear view mirrors. Apparently...somehow...the remote opener in his pocket got activated as he was entering his cart and while the door was still transiting upward, thus causing the door to stop----not quite fully up but out of view looking in the rear view mirrors. "Friend" survived. You'll survive. And you won't be the last. There's just too many people here doing too many things----pretty much impossible to be the first at anything! Ca ca happens. Feel better???

Lynnelf, I did the same thing only in reverse. I went out in the garage to go somewhere in the golf cart. The garage door was open but I didn't notice that Mom had previously lowered the garage door a bit while she was puttering in the garage. I backed out at nearly full speed &

Look at it this way. You've got your first accident out of the way and you weren't even hurt, and no one is going to sue you. Sounds like it came out okay to me!

Several years ago one morning when I got up I was feeling like Cr***, but had to go to work anyway. My wife was helping me get things together and she took things to the car and turned on the lights in the garage. Well, I never turn them on as when you hit the door opener they come on automatic. In my condition I thought the door was open and got in car and put into reverse and hit the gas. Well, it pushed the whole door out and then it would not open. Only thing to do then was get out of car go out the front door and around the house and kick the hell out of the door to push it back in. It worked and it would then open. Cost me $600 for a new door.
