Golf courses would certainly attract golfers to TV. The number of movie theaters, c'mon.

This dislike of Hollywood seems to be an important part of why the Village developers dumped their commitment to providing entertainment here in the Villages offered by movie theaters. Not the economics of movie theaters and golf courses. Both of which need huge food sales and "ticket" or "green" fees to remain profitable. But there is a HUGE upkeep charge for the golf courses.

This is a theme that has been going on here for as long as we have been discussing the closing of the Barnstorm Theater. And many throw in the golf courses as making money for the Developers.

They would for a good part of the people living in the Villages especially those not into golf. Three movie theaters, that is.

I saw Oppenheimer in Ocala, I had reserved my ticket online which let me even pick out my seat.
This was a great option since I had no idea how crowded it was going to be even though I was going to a 2pm showing.
I like the movie, but it was not what I expected, and it was completely my fault.
The title of the movie should have been my clue.
The movie was concentrated on Oppenheimer personal life more than the making of the bomb.
Though I like it film and it was not what I expected, what I also didn't expect was how empty the theater was, if I had to guess there might have been twenty people at best.
I worked in the business and in the early 70s there was a dry spell in films and many theaters closed down, but as the business started to return theaters came back bigger than ever.
I do not believe that is going to be the cast this time, today there is too much competition, films will continue to be made but they will find other ways than a theatre to display them.

Ummm... Yes you are...

"Golf courses rarely make money unless they charge a lot for membership. Google it.

The upkeep of golf courses is quite expensive.

They keep making this argument that the movie theaters were shut down because they were not money makers. Neither are the golf courses. They are an attraction to keep people moving here as were the THREE movie theaters."

Default CMX Cinemas Plaza Café 12

Before moving here and pre C. I loved to go to our local CineBistro dinner theater. Loved it!
If we could get CMX to move in at that location I’m 99% sure it would be a hit.

I will wait until I can rent it online although I love the big screen and acoustics.

However, I am 10 min from Brownwood.

Developer: PLEASE REOPEN THIS THEATRE. WE HAVE THOUSANDS MORE PEOPLE SOUTH OF 44 AND WE NEED THIS THEATRE.

I just don't get it. It is already there and had been in use until Covid. It will bring people to Brownwood square to spend $ at the restaurants etc. You have tons of golf courses but here is something we really need and you only have a movie theatre in Sumter landing.....
Being a huge movie fan, the trip to Leesburg AMC is very worth it. Advanced seating online, comfort, fresh popcorn and Books A Million, as well. Seen over a dozen movies the past year. Who needs Brownwood?

Not to mention, the golf courses are almost always full. The movie theaters? Only busy on the discount nights...

If the championship courses didn't make money, they wouldn't spend $Millions building more of them...

The executive courses are also a major draw, based on the usage numbers. Your amenity fees pay for them. Just as they always have.

So, it's folly to compare the two...

When it was open people weren’t going. They were losing money. This is why they closed it permanently.

They were not going because of COVID and fears related to it.
